    Cecil Travel Team Soccer Program

    Overview:

The Cecil Soccer Club fields’ representative (rep.) teams for players age Under-9 through Under-19. This program is for more advanced players who are willing to work to improve their skills and play at a higher level. Teams compete with the rep. teams from other clubs in our area. The teams also represent Cecil Soccer at tournaments and in the State Cup
The Travel team experience can be a defining aspect of a player’s childhood, creating lifelong experiences and friendships. The travel experience is a rewarding one.

    Coaching Statement:

The coaches are to meet high standards for technical competence, knowledge of soccer rules and tactics, ability to work effectively and positively with the team players/parents, other coaches, and Cecil Soccer administrators. Coaches are responsible for the selection of players, training, all on-field decisions, and the overall conduct of the team on and off the soccer field.

    Coaching Code of Conduct:
    • Make practices and games enjoyable to both the players and parents.
    • Maintain composure at games and avoid yelling.
    • Be Positive: Win, lose, or draw, always point out something positive about the game.
    • Coach camaraderie/teamwork among the team members and parents.
    • Allow the team parents to have a say, and rely on the manager in helping to communicate the coaches’ thoughts to parents.
    • To be a good communicator with the parents.

    Common Questions About Rep Soccer

    1. How much do teams travel?
About half of our games are at home in Meadow Park. Our teams play in either the Mid-Atlantic Soccer League (teams from Concord, Hockessin, Kirkwood, Glasgow, Newark, Dover, Middletown,) Maryland teams (Fallston, Bel Air, Jarrettsville, White Marsh, Baltimore, etc.) Pennsylvania teams (Radnor, West Chester, Chichester, Brandywine, Lehigh, Rose Tree; Drexel Hill, Upper Darby etc) so, many away games are usually nearby.

    2. What is the time commitment?
Most teams practice twice a week for 90 minutes to two hours depending on the age. Most parents are usually surprised to find how little time and travel rep. soccer actually requires. Games are on Sundays so they don't interfere with brothers or sisters playing in-house on Saturdays. Our parents are a close-knit group, always willing to help get a player to a practice or game.

    3. Won't a player develop just as much playing in-house soccer?
Many of our teams have practices conducted by a professional trainer. Our coaches have also attended training and are licensed. On the other side, each year many of the best players leave in-house to play rep. The combination of better training and better competition results in rep. players developing at a much faster pace.

    4. What is the financial commitment to participate on a Cecil Soccer travel team?
To help support themselves, the rep. teams host the Chesapeake Cup Tournament each spring. The remaining costs come to about $50 -$75 per player for each season (fall, indoor and spring).
The financial commitment to participate varies by team depending on expenses, which can include but are not limited to the following:

    • Paid trainer
    • Home and Away Uniforms ($100 - $150). Uniform charges are required when new players join the team or a player outgrows their current uniform)
    • Club, league and state association dues/fees
    • Tournaments
    • Optional training – Summer Camps

Many teams participate in various fundraising activities to offset the expenses for its players.
