Sharks and Hounds lock teeth. Sharks walk off in 10th
The Rockhounds and Sharks met for the 3rd time in 4 games. Sharks pitching really controlled this game. Reeder allowed just one earned run on 7 hits in the no decision. Lopez fanned 6 over 4 frames, picking up the win in relief. Greg Frey made good on his Cy Young worthy 2015 campaign, holding the talented Sharks hitters to just a run in 6 2/3 in relief.
The Rockhounds scored the first three batters they sent to the plate Sunday, but didn't score again until tying the game in the top of the ninth. Fortunato led off the 10th with a single, then stole 2nd and 3rd. But the Hounds bats weren't able to push the go ahead run across. Orlando Gutierrez started the bottom of the inning with a single, his 3rd hit of the game, then stole 2nd. He advanced to 3rd on a hard grounder to first by Scholer. With one out and the Hounds defense forced in, Joel Jimenez crushed the first pitch he saw to left. Gutierrez trotted home.
Both teams played admirably in this one.
