Hello to all the coach that were there to coach my son Tyrus Thompson and thanks coach Jim for inviting him to play when he was a in the corner store by our homes, he had to lose weight ever year to play but he made it happen so that he could play, this will be his senior year in high school, we now live in Pflugerville tx. and he is commited to go to Oklahoma University class of 2010.

Coach Jim, Pam and I are very sorry to hear about your health problems, and you will be in our prayers. A lot of ex players owe more to you than they can ever repay. You were always there, always had the best interest of the kids and Bears in mind, were always a good influence, and a positive inspiration to the kids you coached. In my coaching history, you were not only a great coach, but one of my best and closest friends. If the Bears ever have a game dedicated to you, I hope they will let me know, so I can bring some caps for the coaching staff to the game. As you can guess, the caps will actually be 'do' rags, and Coach Sonny will have to wear one. Anyways, hurry up and get well, so you can get back on the sidelines. The Bear sideline won't be the same without you.
It's with a heavy heart that I'm having to write this entry in here but for medical reasons way beyond my control I won't be on the Bear's coaching staff for at least this season. Unfortunatley I've been stricken with Renal Cell Carcinoma (Kidney cancer) & I'll be under-going surgery this month to hopefully remove a malignancy on my right kidney. The surgerys called "Partial Laparoscopic Nephrectomy" which means they'll remove the tumor along with a small portion of my infected kidney. In most cases the entire kidney is removed but seeing as I'm a type 2 diabetic, removing the entire kidneys not an option so hopefully this laser surgery will do the trick. A diabetic living with only one kidney would require dialysis & I'm not, nor will I ever be prepared to have to be hooked up to a machine 5xs a week or more.
Once I'm done with the surgery part of it I may be able to do the video for all our games provided I heal ok so thats what I'm hoping for. I will truly miss all of you out on the practice field & I promise to get back as soon as I'm able. My thanks to Coach Sonny, Mrs. Loretta & everybody that proudly wears the purple & black for puttin up with me for all these years ... I love you all.

Seriously, hope everyones good & ready for some football. I know I am ... I go to sleep & wake up with NFL network & ESPN and I'm now reduced to watching 48 hr. marathon of 'Deadliest Catch' ... things can get bumpy and things can get tough..
the days get hotter and practice gets ruff..
the coaches whistles start to ring in your ear..
you build your muscles and lose your fear...
you become a team that goes to battle as one..
you fight and fight till the final gun..
you learn to respect the team you strived to build..
