Chiefs are Champs at Pacific Northwest Classic
1/6/07--Spokane
The Moses Lake Chiefs had five wrestlers in the finals and came away with three individual champions as they held onto a slim lead over Lakeside to win the Pacific Northwest Classic.
Gabe Guzman, Jordan Hill and Brett Fredrickson each won 1st place as Cody Hoiness and John Fackrell took 2nd place. Five other wrestlers placed to make it 10 metals in 14 weight classes. All but one wrestler scored team points. It was truly a team victory.
Besides our finals victories, some of the tournament highlights I enjoyed were: 1, Matt Palmer working over defending state champ Nick Cambron (yes the one that beat our Roberto Cruz in the state finals); 2, Blaine Zucker scoring a pin at the tourney, his first varsity appearance; 3, John Fackrell gutting out a close win against former Chief Jacob Newman; 4, Cody Hoiness back in action; 5, Gabe Guzman dominating Cowin in the finals; 6, J-Hill getting that tourney win; and 7, seeing the Chiefs hoist that championship trophy.

12/20/06--JV Wrestles great at Othello.
12/20/06--Othello
Moses Lake took 21 wrestlers to Othello on Wednesday to take part in a JV Tournament. There were several teams there and the Chiefs made us proud. Some of the highlights I enjoyed were: Ty Sainsbury recovering from injury to dominate his bracket; Cameron Chlarson pinning his opponent in the final in :51 seconds; Mitch Hill wrestling very smart in winning his bracket making it a sweep of the 130 lbs brackets--Seth Stones easily won the A bracket; an all Chief final at 119 with Jordan Bishop and Ricco Moreno; and I really enjoyed David Demchuck in his first year wrestling, gutting out an overtime victory to earn a spot in the finals and finishing second.
These boys have worked hard and had their chance to show their stuff. There were A and B brackets in some of the weight classes. The chiefs came home with several champions. I hope I am remembering them all.
Champs:
Andrew Valdez
Jordan Bishop
Seth Stones
Mitchell Hill
Cameron Chlarson
Ty Sainsbury
We also had 5 or 6 second placers and about the same third placers. Overall, the Chief JVs pretty much dominated. You can count we had about half our wrestlers in the finals. Way to go boys.
2 Chiefs Place at Tri-State
The Chief wrestlers travelled to North Idaho College and the Tri-State Tournament this weekend. It was one tough tournament.
Tyler Vela and Gabriel Guzman both dropped a weight class from where they have been wrestling and it paid off. Tyler wrestled through to place 4th at 112 going 6-2 with 3 pins. Gabe was 6th at 119 going 5-3 over the weekend. Way to go.

HOLY FACKRELL!
12/9/06
What a day for the Fackrell Brothers. While senior John was busy winning the 189 pound class at the Inland Empire Classic (Pinning each opponent), Younger brother Spencer was at the Ephrata Invite taking home the 215 pound championship. He pinned every opponent in the first round. I asked father Duane to buy me a lottery ticket but he wouldn't do it.
Congrats to the Fackrells.
Chiefs Roll Over West Valley and Sunnyside
If you weren't at the Chief Gym on Thursday, what you missed was pure dominance. The two CBL 4A powers welcomed two CBL 3A powers to life with the big boys. Moses Lake beat West Valley 71-4, and Sunnyside 49-17. Pasco also dominated each of these teams in the Chief Gym. Pasco 60-West Valley 9, and Pasco 49-Sunnyside 22.
Several Chiefs got two pins on the night. The JV seemed to dominate as well. Leave your thoughts on the match in the Forum.
With ML and Pasco looking so good, it looks like the match of the year may be when the Chiefs Travel to Pasco on January 9th to take on the Bulldogs.

12/2/06 JV Tournament
12/2/06
Kennewick
The JV wrestlers attended the Bob Mars Wrestling Tournament in Kennewick on Saturday, December 2nd.
There were two tournaments. The first was a varsity double elimination tournament that the JVs wrestled in, and the other was a true JV tourney that was a round robin format. The only results I have are for the Varsity portion.
Overall, there was some great wrestling. ML was 8th out of 13 teams.

Jamboree a Success
11/30/06-Moses Lake
Moses Lake was the sight of a the first wrestling event of the season. The Chiefs hosted Wenatchee, Royal, and Ephrata in a jamboree. The wrestlers were matched up against other wrestlers of like skill wrestling abbreviated matches of 3 one minute rounds. Then, in the second match, winners then wrestled winners and losers wrestled losers.
It was a fun night to work out the kinks and get back into the swing of the wrestling season. Many of the Chiefs won both mini matches and we saw a lot of Frosh wrestling well.
On the sad side, Moses Lake Freshman Chris LaSalle, wrestling his first high school match suffered an apparent broken leg. He was taken by the ambulance and our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.
Next up for the Chiefs is a tournament for JV wrestlers on Saturday at Kennewick High School. The next varsity action is in the Chief Gym on Thursday, December 7. This is a double dual and wrestling starts at 6:00.
See Ya' There.
Owings v. Gable
11/21/06
Today I watched on YouTube the classic 1970, 141 pound NCAA championship match where UW wrestler Larry Owings handed the legend Dan Gable his only college loss in his last college match. What a gutsy performance. Check it out here.
2006 DISTRICT RESULTS.
The Chiefs had some great wrestling and some disappointments at the 2005 District Tournament. The team was edged out by Pasco for the team championship. Our congratulations to them. They had several wrestlers come through and do better than expected.
We give big pats on the back to our two champions and two runners-up. Brett Fredrickson at 215 and Roberto Cruz at 103 were 1st in their classes. Matt Palmer (119) and Cody Hoiness (135) finished second.
Six other wrestlers advanced to regionals. They are: Gabriel Guzman (125), Sean Hoiness (130), Jordan Hill (140), Thomas Courtright (152), Stevie Vasques (189)and John Fackrell (189).
Two others were alternates: Seth Stones (125) and Jacob Neuman (171).
