Local Coach Receives Award
CONGRATULATIONS DON BAILEY!
Drayton Valley District Minor Baseball Club is pleased to announce Don Bailey, 2007 Midget coach and director, received the prestigious Bill Chmiliar Award of Merit from the Edmonton International Baseball Foundation during Baseball Canada/Baseball Alberta annual Awards Night in Edmonton on November 10, 2007. This award is presented to a person whose conduct, education and activities have made a significantly lasting contribution to the development and betterment of amateur baseball in the province. It is the highest honour one can receive in amateur baseball in Alberta.
Don Bailey has been coaching baseball in the local area for almost 20 years. He has also served on the Drayton Valley Minor Baseball executive in one capacity or another during this time. Parents of his 2002 Peewee team submitted Don’s nomination for the award five years ago. At the time Bailey won the 3M Award due to his special contribution to the development of athletes and sport in the community. His candidacy for the Bill Chmiliar Award remained on the shortlist in the following years. Don’s name can be found on the trophy at the Telus Field showcase in Edmonton.
Thank-you Don, for making baseball fun!
