Arizona Premier September Event
September 22, 2008 --
This past weekend we had a great showing at this month's premier event. Despite the temperatures reaching the triple digits, we made no excuses and came to play. We were able to take both games of our scheduled double header.
In our first game we played the CLASH 13U APST team. APST stands for Arizona Premier Scout Team, this team competes in many showcase tournaments with the focus being on getting their young players on the radar. With Ben Goermar on the hill we were able to keep their experienced bats in check. He pitched 3 strong innings and earned the victory, before being relieved by Trevor Wolf.
The second game was a rematch of the previous Sunday when we faced the CLASH 14U prospects. Starting on the mound for us was Jack Algye and he delivered 3 very strong innings before tiring from the long day in the heat. Relieving him was Michael Mathews, who picked up the victory.
Despite one bad inning in each game as a team we showed adjustments at the plate in both games. All week long we worked on making adjustments and having a good approach, it's slowly but surely starting to sink in. It was also nice being able to give every player a start, and a chance to contribute. It was especially nice going into the 100 degree weather of PHX and taking both games from teams used to the climate.
If anything else is learned from this day it needs to be that we can compete in any weather conditions. And that it is important to begin hydrating the day BEFORE the game as well as during the day, if your drinking water to catch up you're already to late!

Yavapai Tournament
During the weekend of the 19th we competed in our first event of the fall season. And i am very pleased to report the composure and maturity we showed on the field.
Over the course of the 5 games we played, we competed very well in 3 of the games, pulling out 2 victories on Sunday over the Players Academy 14U team and the CLASH 14U Prospects. Jack Algye and Michael Mathews did very well with their starts. Ben Goermar relieved the first game and picked up the win against the Players. In the second game we turned to Sam Shanahan for the save while Mathews picked up the win against the CLASH.
Despite letting a few games get away, it was a great experience and learning tool for the young Jacks.

Arizona Junior Olympic Sectional Tournament
September 24, 2007 --
The Arizona sectional tournament was the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd. The AZ Premier team is an all star team comprised of 21 kids from the Players, Clash, Baja, Garden of Gears, and the Lumberjack Baseball Academies. The team was very competitive in their three games, we lost our 3 games by a combined score of 5 runs. There was tremendous talent at the tournament and it was a wonderful learning experience for all the ball players.
