MARINERS PITCHING STEPS UP BIG TIME IN WBA
July 22, 2012
The 2012 Mariners pitching staff distinguished itself with a slew of gritty performances in the WBA, allowing only 85 runs for the season, an average of 3.68 runs per game, the third lowest in the WBA.
This exceptional performance was achieved despite injuries, defections and broken committments to the team. We had only three complete games this season, two by DAN MUNDAY and one by NICK PISANI. But we had other guys who really stepped up and carried the load. LOU WELSH, VIC COSME, PHIL SEAY, ROB GAERTNER all deserve lots of credit for pitching in a rotation I designed week by week. Congrats to them all. Winners always find a way to win.

RED HOT MARINERS DISEMBOWEL COLLEGIANS TWICE TO COMPLETE 37-14 REGULAR SEASON
July 21, 2012
The red hot Mariners completed an excellent 2012 regular season by disemboweling the Collegians twice at Fordham, 7-0 and 8-1. The Collegians made their first mistake by showing up, then compounded it by falling twice to the Mariners. In the opener, Lou (Bloody LOU) Welsh yielded only a single hit and NICK PISANI yielded nothing. Only two Collegians reached base and neither advanced to second. In the cap, VIC (Gabby) COSME ,DAN (RamMan MUNDAY) and smoking ROB GAERTNER slammed the Collegians door shut. NICK KNULL wore out the Collegians outfielders and GONZO GONZALEZ, JUSTIN COULTER and JOEY FALCONE all contributed to making the day miserable for the Collegians. Solid performances behind the dish by WALKER HARRISON and DUNCAN TAYLOR were augmented by BRIAN MC KENNA's cinematic adventures and several key hits. The current Mariners win streak stand at 7.
MARINERS LIQUIFY TITANS TWICE AT RAINY MOUNT ST. MIVHAELS
Coming off a sparking win against an over confident Sports Fever team, the Mariners continued preparations for the NABF Regionals by raining base hits on the less than titanic Titans on Sunday. The scores were 8-5 and 12-11.
Long balls by JOEY FALCONE, MIKE SHADA, VIC PANTOPOLOUS and JUSTIN "SIX SHOOTER" COULTER led the hitting rampage while VIC "Gabby" COSME, ROB "I WANNA HIT" GAERTNER and Iron Man closer NICK ELPEDIO PISANI "Gimme the ball , coach" provided all the pitching needed. BRIAN MC KENNA (the silent one)was his usual loquacious and entertaining self.

JOEY FALCONE did not disappoint the forty or so of his relatives who showed up to see him play on "Joey Falcone Day at the PGL" Falcone banged out a pair of hits, including a long triple.
MARINERS WIN HARRISBURG FIRECRACKER TOURNAMENT
Behind powerful pitching performances by RICHIE ANDERSON, PAT BROWN and MORGAN LIEBERMAN, the Mill Basin Mariners stunned the best teams in southern Pennsylvania and their partisans by winning the prestigous Firecracker Tournament over the Independence Day weekend.
Missing key offensive stars, the Mariners never scored more than five runs in any one game, yet prevailed in the end when nifty swifty CHRIS AHEARN first beat out a potential double play grounder, then stole second base and finally raced home from second on a short basehit with the winning tournament run against New Cumberland, 3-2.

MARINERS OPEN WBA SEASON BY RUNNING PAST TITANS, 5-1 AND 14-1
A depleted Mariners squad stood tall and ran fast in opening its WBA season with two decisive wins over the NY Titans on Sunday, May 22 at PG#7.
The scores were 5-1 and 14-1. Mariners pitchers, led by WBA Pitcher of the Year, PAT BROWN, completely smothered the Titans. BROWNIE'S efforts were augmented by excellent pitching from STEVE KAPLAN, MIKE VAN PELT, JAMES MARDIKOS and RICHIE ANDERSON.
But it was Mariners speed that carried the day. Unveiling a new offense based on the premise "speed kills" the Mariners swiped twelve bases and forced the Titans into numerous defensive mistakes. DAN LYNCH, CHRIS AHEARN and XAVIER BONILLA each swiped three bases while Big Boppers BONILLA, VIC PANTOPOLOUS and JOEY FALCONE (son of former NYMets hurler PETE FALCONE) collected 11 hits and 10 ribbies among them. MIKE SHADA excelled at short and ROB BERNARDO did the same at second while poking three hits.
Ironman MIKE LUCRE caught both ends of the twin bill by necessity and reached base four times.
The scheduled exhibition game vs. the Bonnies at 12 noon at PG#3 has been cancelled due to wet grounds and inclement weather.
Uniforms will be distributed Sunday, May 15 at 1pm at my house, 2750 East 64 Strret/Brooklyn NY 11234. My number is 718 968 3120

MARINERS OPEN SEASON WITH HUMILIATING DEFEAT
May 27, 2010
On Opening Night in the WBA, the Mill Basin Mariners humiliated themselves by losing to the woeful Brooklyn Bonnies, 6-2 at PG#3.
The Bonnies scored no earned runs and won the game in the fifth inning when they scored three runs without hitting a ball out of the infield. Constant Mariners defensive mistakes accounted for the remaining three Bonnie runs.
Offensively, the Mariners were both pathetic and embarrassing, striking out ten times against C level pitching and leaving 13 runners on base, mostly in scoring position. The Mariners scored their only two runs on based loaded walks.
If this calibre of play continues, it will be a long, hot, losing summer.
