    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    1) Who do I call to obtain information about Wildcat Soccer?

    Answer:
    Contact the following:

Steve Thomas: Park District Contact 603-963-5252

Brian Frank: President of Wildcat Booster Club 630-968-7751

    2) How often and when are the practices?

    Answer:
The final decision rests with the coaches in cooperation with the team's parents. Normally, each team will practice 1 1/2 - 2 hours, two to three times a week on the Park District's properties in Westmont.

    3) What kind of commitment is necessary?

    Answer:
In addition to practices, each team will play 10 league games each outdoor season and will attend 1 or 2 tournaments. Five league games are in Westmont, the other five league games are in surrounding communities. Fall season runs from August through November. The spring season runs from April through June. Some teams will either play indoor, or start running indoor practices over the winter months. This is up to the individual team and it's players/parents. Everyone must display proper behavior and respect towards coaches, trainers, players, opponents, parents of opponents, and referees.

    4) Why play in tournaments?

    Answer:
Tournaments are an opportunity for players to compete with teams outside their scheduled league play. One tournament fee is built into your registration fees. However, any travel, hotel and meal expenses are up to the parents to provide.

    5) What is expected of the players?

    Answer:

    A) Attend all training sessions, games, tournaments, and meetings unless the coach excuses the player. When conflicts do arise, please notify your coach as soon as possible ahead of time. This will allow them to better plan their practice sessions. Attendance records are kept.

    B) The following items should be brought to every training session and game:

    1. Properly fitting shin guards
    2. Water bottle filled with water
    3. Proper clothing attire (dressed for weather)
    4. Properly fitting and appropriate footwear
    5. Properly inflated and sized soccer ball

    C) Be on time for all team functions, games, and practices.

    D) Each player is to care and carry their own equipment (bag, water bottle, etc.). We do not want the parents taking care of the players equipment.

    E) Show absolute respect at all times towards coaches, other players, teammates, parents, referees, and opponents.

    F) Desire to become the best you can be.

    6) Who decides how much playing time players will receive?

    Answer:
The individual coaches make all final decisions. Some items which will influence the decision are:

    A) Player's attendance at practices and meetings.
    B) Player's performance and individual skill level.
    C) Player's attitude and commitment to the game.
    D) Playing time must be earned.

    7) Will there be practices or games during bad weather?

    Answer:
Parents should never assume that games or practices will be cancelled. The coaches and/or referee will decide whether to cancel a practice or game.

    8) Why do the teams use trainers?

    Answer:
Most coaches are parent/coaches who have learned the game of soccer within the last few years. Trainers aid the coaches in the player's soccer development by providing specialized soccer training for individual skill development and an understanding of the tactics of the game. One reason for players to drop out of soccer is that their skills do not keep up with their competitors and their teammates. We are committed to developing individual soccer skills of the young players. Success and long-term enjoyment of soccer will follow. Trainers typically work with the players once a week for an 8 week period.

    9) How much are the fees and what do they cover?

    Answer:
The fees are set by the Westmont Park District. They are based on the fees which N.I.S.L. charges to participate in their league, as well as reccomendations from the Soccer Advisory Board.

Each team will receive 8 weeks of professional training. One tournament fee is included in the teams total as well. Each player will receive a uniform to use during the season. The players are responsible for their own shoes, shin guards, etc.

The Wildcat Booster Club provides each player with a bag (once), and team warm-ups in the fall. The warm-ups are replaced as the player grows older.

    10) How do I wash my players uniform?

    Answer:
The suggested care for the uniforms is:

    1. Machine wash in cold water.
    2. Do not use bleach.
    3. Tumble dry on a low setting (letting the uniform air dry is better for it).
    4. Cold iron only if necessary.
    5. Do not use iron on printing.
    6. Do not dry clean.

    11) Can I do anything if the soccer expenses become an issue?

    Answer:
Yes you can, no player will be turned away or denied an opportunity to participate for financial reasons. The Wildcat Booster Club has given scholarships to players who need financial help. All requests should be directed to the Wildcat Booster Club. All requests are kept confidential.

In addition, the Wildcat Booster Club runs several fundraisers each year. Please call us for details.
