Do I need experience?

No. As with any sport, experience helps, but it’s not required. Many Aliso athletes started playing lacrosse in high school. As long as you commit yourself to practice, you have fun, will improve your skills, and make new friends playing this great team sport!

What should I do now to be ready for the season?

There are a few things you can do now to prepare for tryouts and the spring season or build your skills.

To start, top lacrosse players have a regular regimen to develop speed, agility, flexibility, endurance, and strength. Flexibility is a key element of athletic success, so it’s important to stretch every day.  If you are not enrolled in an off season sport, you should be attending all off season lacrosse practices.

Play wall ball! If you haven’t heard the term ‘wall ball,’ you will! It’s as simple as using your stick to throw and catch a lacrosse ball against a wall. Practicing your stick skills about 30 minutes every day is very important. This simple exercise done consistently will definitely make you stand out from the other players at tryouts. To change things up, play catch with a friend, or have a competition shooting on a goal.

Finally, check out some game tapes or instructional videos. When watching game tapes, study your position, and learn what makes that player effective. In the 'Training Center, Online Videos"' area of this website, you can find some good instructional links. Watching these videos will help you create a picture in your mind of what great lacrosse looks like. Then, each time you play you’ll find that your body will try to mimic that picture.

Committing yourself to do these few things consistently will help to improve your skills, and ensure you contribute more to your Wolverine Boys Lacrosse team at Aliso Niguel High School.

Should I pay a donation?

The three Wolverine Lacrosse Teams operate solely on donations from parents and the community.  The requested donation is based on a budget to provide a quality program and excellent team experience for every boy who wants to play lacrosse on our three teams, minus planned fundraising revenue, then divided equally by the number of expected players.  The requested donation covers game day jerseys, balls, nets, busing, and salaries for assistant coaches, referees, trainers and fields.  This sport receives no stipend for assistant coaches. We are 100% self-funded.

If I can’t pay all at once, can I make payments?

If necessary, donations can be made over time. Contact the treasurer to set up a plan at anhsboyslacrosse@gmail.com. If the full amount is not feasible, parents and players can contribute the equivalent donation by contacting businesses in the community and selling banners, ads for our game day programs, website ads, etc.  See the handout section of this website for Sponsorship Program.  Contact Karen Anapoell at anapoell@cox.net for additional fundraising information.

Do I get any tax benefit from my donation?

Yes, Wolverine Boys’ Lacrosse is a 501 © 3 non-profit organization. Our Tax ID No. is 51-0616864.  Please consult your tax advisor regarding the deductibility of your donations.

My son isn't in high school yet, but what can he do to prepare for high school lacrosse?

Wall ball and club teams. Check out our website for more information.  Please reach out to our head coach and have your son indicate his interest: Coach Adam Marshall  adamcmarshall@gmail.com

Should I volunteer?

Our program is run solely from volunteers. Please do your part. A night at the snack bar or on the field scorekeeping go a long way. There are also opportunities to help with fundraising, the banquet and be on the board of directors.   If everyone commits to do a little, no one has to do a lot.

Why do the practice schedule changes some time?

During our off season the fall sports get priority. When we begin our season, some of the winter sports are still in session. We do our best to be consistent and try to provide notice when times or venues are changed. Please be patient with us, as we are doing our best.

What do I do with old equipment my son isn’t using anymore?
