York-Adams Youth Basketball League Playing Rules


PIAA Basketball Rules are followed with the following special rules:

Senior Boys/Girls
1. Playing time is six (6) minute quarters.
2. Will use three point field goal.
3. May press if not ahead by 15 or more points.
4. When a team cannot press, it must drop back to the mid-court line and not play defense until the ball crosses mid-court.
5. Violators of the no press rule will get a warning for the first violation and will be assessed a technical foul for the second and succeeding violations.
6. Boys will use regulation ball and girls will use smaller (28.5) ball.

Junior Boys/Girls
1. Playing time is six (6) minute quarters.
2. Will use three point field goal.
3. May press if not already ahead by 10 or more points.
4. When a team cannot press, it must drop back to the mid-court line and not play defense until the ball crosses mid-court.
5. Violators of the no press rule will get a warning for the first violation and will be assessed a technical foul for the second and succeeding violations.
6. Will use smaller (28.5) ball.

Rink Boys/Girls
1. Playing times is six (6) minute quarters.
2. A lane violation will occur at three seconds.
3. Will not use three point field goal.
4. No press is allowed except for the last minute of the fourth quarter and last minute of overtime.
5. Any team that is ahead by 7 or more points may not press.
6. On missed shots – as soon as a player has control of the ball, the defense must drop back to the opponent’s three point line until the ball crosses mid-court.
7. Must play man-to-man defense – no zone defenses permitted.
8. Violators of 4-7 above will get a warning for the first violation and will be assessed a technical foul for the second and succeeding violations.
9. Rinks will be permitted to have momentum carry them over the line on foul shots.
10. Will use smaller (28.5) ball.

All overtime periods will be three (3) minutes.

MERCY RULE:
Upon complete of the 1st half, if one team is up by 30 or more points, the clock continues to run except for time outs, end of period or administering free throws.


If a coach receives a technical foul for behavioral reasons, his/her organization will pay a $10 fine to the League.
