Disappointing to say the least. We went to Kansas missing a lot of fire power that we started the year with.

We went 1-2. Both games we lost we took a 3 run lead into the bottom of the 7th.

    “They’re just a website”…..

Motivation? Maybe. Maybe Two-N-Out.com/Easton should thank the yahoo who reminded them all morning Saturday that they were not a softball team, they were just a website. After all, the first game out Saturday morning against a newly formed Blue Collar team, they played like it.

With former  teammate “Rat” Coleman on the hill against them in their first game of the 2006 USSSA”Class D” State Championship, Two-N-Out gave a very uninspired effort, grounding into 3 double plays and falling to the Blue Collar boys 12-6.

    Two-N-Out.com/Easton : 0-1

Suffice it to say not a good start. Win this game; they don’t play again until 6 PM that evening. Lose and you play at 2, 4, and 7, provided they win each of those games. If they were to make any noise at all, they were going to have to fight all the way through the Loser’s Bracket.

Next up they would face M&M Construction, who, come to find out, had to forfeit due to lack of players. So a break after all for the Two-N-Out squad.

    Two-N-Out.com/Easton: 1-1

4 PM rolled around and despite there being an open field for close to two hours there was a delay in getting started, the 4PM game started close to 5 PM, pitting Two-N-Out against American Legion Bomb Squad. Two-N-Out’s defensive backbone Chad Johnson made it down for the next two games to provide a spark.  Two-N-Out took this one 9-4.

    Two-N-Out.com/Easton: 2-1

In the finale for the night Two-N-Out looked to avenge an embarrassing defeat to Renegades Softball, an “E” team who in a qualifier earlier in the year had defeated the Two-N-Out squad rather easily.  Two-N-Out took this one down by the same score as the Bomb Squad game 9-4.

    Two-N-Out.com/Easton: 3-1

So they have made it to Sunday with a very long road still ahead of them.

First game Sunday morning saw Two-N-Out against the #1 seed in the tournament, NKY Thunder. Two-N-Out came out ready to play, behind some very strong play at shortstop by Jimmy Evans Two-N-Out jumped out early with a 13 run first inning. They never looked back and took this one with ease, 23-4.

    Two-N-Out.com/Easton: 4-1

Two-N-Out then met up with their old pals the Good Guys. The boys from Good Guys put up a fight but could not get the sticks going, this was a very spirited battle with both teams jawing back and forth the whole game. Pitcher Tony Pompilio had the Good Guys off balance and off their game.

Two-N-Out talked the talk and walked the walk and then put the Good Guys away 10-3.

Side note: It should NEVER get personal. Act the same, winning or losing.

    Two-N-Out.com/Easton: 5-1

Pridecast was next up. The last time these two teams hooked up Pridecast laid the smack down on the Website boys. This game was a bit different. Solid defense, timely hitting led to a Two-N-Out victory, 16-8.

    Two-N-Out.com/Easton: 6-1

Game number eight of the tournament for Two-N-Out paired them up with the Backstabbers, out of Milfordohio, Kentucky in the Finals of the Losers Bracket. This was not the first meeting of the year between the two squads. Despite being completely outplayed in the first meeting of the year Two-N-Out took the win. And in the last NIT, Two-N-Out backed up that win in a very convincing nature over the “Stabbers” only to be knocked out by them later in the tourney. Two-N-Out seemed to be on a mission at this point and handily defeated the Backstabbers 15-4.

    Two-N-Out.com/Easton: 7-1

This set up a classic battle between the 4-time State Champion Nasty Boys and Two-N-Out. Two-N-Out would need to win this one to force a final winner take all Championship game.

The game was an offensive struggle back and forth the whole way. With Two-N-Out down 20-16 in the bottom of 7th, Michael Daniele led off with a double, was pinch run for by Doug Buford, and then followed by consecutive hits by Mike Sellet, Mike Hughes, Chris Malay, Andy Gebelt and Shawn Donaghy, Gebelt scored the tying run, but Two-N-Out could muster no more in the 7th. Neither Two-N-Out or Nasties could score in the 8th and Two-N-Out got the Nasties out without harm in the 9th. Jimmy Evans, with one out in the bottom of the 9th doubled down the left field line, Daniele was intentionally walked and then Mike Sellet grounded a liner to the shortstop, it took a big hop right over his head and Jimmy Evans came across the with emotional come from behind 21-20 victory.

    Two-N-Out.com/Easton: 8-1

Coming off of such an up and down game one would expect one of the teams to come out flat and take advantage in the final game. In their 6th game of the day, Two-N-Out came out flat and looked tired. Falling behind 19-8, this one appeared to be over.

In the championship game Two-N-Out trailed by 11 after 3 ½  innings, 9 after 4 ½  innings, 6 after 5 ½  innings, 10 after 6 ½  innings, and never gave up. They came in each inning and answered. They never gave up, so in the bottom of the 7th you expected nothing less than a rally to make this one close. Jimmy Evans, with one out, came through with a base hit to left. Michael Daniele followed with a hit to right, putting runners on 1st and second. Mike Sellet was up next and lined a laser to the right side of the infield where the second baseman from the Nasty Boys made an amazing full extension grab of the liner. 2 outs, still two on. Mike Hughes, who didn’t seem to get out all day, then grounded out to end the game. Final Score, 30-26, and the miracle run was over.

    Two-N-Out.com/Easton: 8-22

97 runs scored in the final two games of this tournament. That is simply amazing in a D tournament where there are no home runs. 10 games in 32 hours. WOW! I have never witnessed two more incredible games in my life than those final two. Those final two games are what softball is all about, two teams putting everything they have into each game, leaving it all on the field. This was my most incredible experience ever on a softball field, and the mutual respect shown by both teams afterwards was incredible. We showed a lot of heart and hope to carry on our momentum into Divisionals in 3 weeks and the World after that.

    USSSA D NIT at Rivershore
    July 8, 2006  --
We went 3-2 this past weekend to take 3rd place in a USSSA D NIT at Rivershore. Our first opponent was against the Midniters out of Louisville. We were a little flat but woke up enough to put up some runs and use the defense to roll to a 9-5 victory. Next up was Armor. We were looking for a little revenge after last weekend. They beat us in the C/D NIT. The bats were hot and we seemed to play our style of ball. We took this one 16-10.

We came back to Sunday morning to face the Backstabbers. This happened to be on of our best hitting games in a while. We hit every inning and played some great defense to roll to a 17-3 victory. In the winner's bracket final we were matched up against Extreme Softball/Turner Properties. This games was nothing short of an a$$whipping. They put 9 up in the first and cruised to a 21-6 win. In the loser's bracket final we were matched against the Backstabbers for the second time. This time they had their offense going and jumped out big early. We could not mount any offense until the last inning, but by the time they game was out of reach. We lost 19-11.

Congratulations to Andy "Chief" Gebelt and Shawn Sproles for making the all tourney team.

    Hitting leaders:

    USSSA Major NIT at Eggleston
    July 15, 2006  --
This past weekend was our second shot at playing against the best teams in the country. We participated in the 43 team Major NIT at Eggleston. We started off the tourney matched up against Cincysoftball.com. With website bragging rights on the line, we jumped out early. They made a run, but they hurt themselves by using all 8 home runs and only plating 10 off them. Mike Sellet had a big 3 run shot in the 6th to help seal the deal. We won 19-14. We were then pitted against one of the top 10 teams in the country, Aubrey's/Worth out of Ga. Not much to say here, we lost 21-1. Our only hit of the game was a solo shot by Chaz Weber. Our first opponent in the loser's bracket was AST/TPE/Miken. The game was tight going into the 5th (2-1). Then they started hitting in the 6th. They won this one 14-2.

The tourney was not over, as they offered a consolation bracket (single elimination) to all D teams  who went 0-2 or 1-2. The prize was $500 to the winner. It was nice to play some teams in our own division. Our first opponent was the Good Guys. We hit well and played some good defense when needed to roll to a 17-10 victory. Our semi final opponent was Black N Blue. We put up 6 quick runs, but only managed 4 after the 1st inning. We again used our defense and the pitching of Tony Pompilio to win 10-5. The championship game pitted us against the Trailblazers. We were shorthanded, but eager to play the one team who we have not defeated at all this year, leagues or tourneys. They took a 12-10 into the top of the 7th. With two outs we responded with consecutive hits from Evans, Daniele, Buford, Hughes and Sellet. We hung on in the bottom of the 7th to win 13-12. This game was exciting as we had many people in different positions. It also marked Daniele's first game pitching for us. $500 to us for winning.

This weekend was great as we got to see the best in the game play. We also welcomed our two new additions in Chaz Weber and Garrett Hadden.

    C/D NIT at Riverstar
    July 1, 2006  --
This weekend we went 5-2 to capture 4th place in a C/D NIT at Riverstar Park with 14 teams. We started off the tourney against Pharmacy Solutions. We jumped out early and hung out for a 10-6 victory. Our next opponent was Team Insanity the eventual tourney champion. We scored 6 in the top of the 7th to take a 11-8 lead into the bottom of the 7th. They put up 4 runs in the final half inning to walk away with a 12-11. East End was up next. We hit often and early and cruised to a 16-6 victory. Max Softball, a C team out of OH, was up next. They held a lead until the 6th when we tied up with a 3 run home run. In the top of the 7th Shawn "Hollywood" Donaghy led off with a triple and scored the eventual winning run off the bat of Chris Fogt. We won this one 11-9. Our last game of Saturday night was against Big O Softball. We had our best hitting game of the tourney and won 23-7.

We came back Saturday to face Moes Southwestern Grill. Again we hit well and cruised to a 17-5 victory. Our next opponent was the last D team left in the tourney, Armor Window. We could not catch a break and lost 9-6.

Congratulations to Chad Johnson for making the All Tournament Team

    D NIT in Dayton OH
    June 24, 2006  --
This weekend we went 2-2 in a D NIT in Dayton, OH. Went finished 13th out of a 23 team field. We went up a little shorthanded and our sticks were missing. We started off the tourney against Stiffler, the eventual champion out of Columbus, OH. We could not muster a constant offensive attack and fell short 12-6. Next up was M&M Connection. We woke up and started hitting. We jumped out early and cruised to a 16-1 victory. In the next round of the loser bracket, we drew Cooper Auto Tanel. It was a tight game but we battled through and won 11-8. Our last game of the tourney would be against Team Bring IT. We held the lead all the way until the 6th inning. They took the lead in the 6th and added some insurance in the 7th. We could not rebound and lost 12-5

    D Qualifier at Huddy
    May 31, 2006  --
    "Wake up Call"
We ended up going 2-2 to finish 3rd place out of 7 teams in a D qualifier on Memorial Day at Northern Kentucky Sports Park. Our first game we drew Tanel. We woke up a little late but ended up winning 15-6. Our next game was against the Diamond Dawgs. After one of our worse defensive innings of the season we trailed 13-0 after the top of the 1st. We never got our offense on track and could not overcome the huge deficit and lost in 5 innings 14-3. We were then matched against Tanel again. We jumped out early and hit well to win this one 16-6. Our next game was against a young Renegades team. We had no offense this game and by the time the 6th inning came around we found ourselves trailing. We could not plate anything in the 7th and lost 10-6. Needless to say we were a little disappointed with our performance. Next up is the Softball Magazine D NIT at Riverstar June 10-11. We will be focused and ready to roll.

USSSA Major NIT in Columbus, IN
    May 20, 2006  --
We ventured to Columbus, IN for our first taste of a Major NIT. We ended up going 0-2 losing to Pace/TPS (NY) 29-7 and Garrets (IN) 21-17. With the new prize package accompanied with the Major NIT, we were able to grab our world berth into the D world tourney in Kansas at the end of the year. It was a great experience to watch and play against the best teams in the world

    USSSA Super Qualifier at Riverstar
    May 6, 2006  --
Well we can win a tourney after all. We broke our string of four 2nd place finishes this past weekend in the Super D Qualifier at Riverstar. We went 4-0 to capture 1st place in the 8 team field. This also netted us $675 in money.

Our first round opponent was Clark County Merchants from Springfield OH. We overcame a first round 5 spot from them to roll to a 11-7 victory. Game two was against the Dirt Merchants. We overcame a 2-1 deficit after 1 inning of play. We broke the game open in the fourth and rolled to a 17-5 shortgame victory. This game also had Ryan Cranfield's first at bat in two years. No hit, but good hustle. In the winner bracket finals we were matched against Diamond Dawgs. We jumped out early with a 5-0 lead in the first. They fought and clawed but were never able to capture the lead as we took the game 11-7. In the championship game, our opponent was again the Clark County Merchants. They put up 4 in the 1st inning and held the lead going into the bottom of the 6th. Trailing by 1 we finally exploded plating 5 runs. We carried a 10-6 lead into the 7th and held on to win the tourney 10-7.  It was nice to get the 2nd place monkey off of our back.

    USSSA D NIT @ Expressway
    April 29, 2006  --
Our second NIT of the 2006 season seen us stop our consecutive 2nd place finish streak. The bad thing was we did not finish first. We ended up going 2-2 finishing 13 out of 35 teams.

We started off the tourney with a nice win (17-7) against Budget Doors out of Columbus. We jumped out early leading 7-0 after two. We never let them get closer than 5 runs. Next up was the Trailblazers. This time they jumped out on us. They held a 10-3 lead going into the bottom of the 5th. We got hot, started our chants and knotted the score at 10. The rebounded in the top of the 6th by putting up 9. We could not muster anymore offense after they grabbed the momentum. We ended up on the short end 20-10.

Our first opponent was Black N Blue out of Northern Kentucky. They exploded on us early taking a 11-0 lead on us after two. We could not get any offense going at all. After trailing 17-3 at one point, our bats woke up. We cut the lead to three after 6 innings. But they answered in the top of the 7th to open the lead to six, 23-17. Things were looking bad but after consecutive two out hits by Shawn Donaghy, Chad Johnson, Chris Fogt and Rat Coleman we ended up victorious 24-23.

Next up was Dizzy Roosters out of Louisville. This was our second match with them as we beat them in 8 innings in the Bash for Cash D NIT. No offense for us at all. They broke open a 4-2 game with 9 runs in the top of the 6th. We could not answer and lost 13-3. Props to them as they rolled through the losers bracket to finish 2nd.

We were back at Expressway this weekend. We ended up 4-2 and finished 2nd AGAIN out of the 20 team field. Four tourneys and four 2nd place finishes.

To start the tourney off, we were matched against Queen City Nutrition. We battled back from a 3-0 deficit to win 14-4 in 5 innings. Up next was another NKY team the Diamond Dawgs. We were never able to get our bats rolling in this one. After a small break in the game due to some words being exchanged. We rolled into the bottom of the 7th down 2. Two straight hits from Chad Johnso and Chris Fogt started the inning off. After a walk and miscue on the Diamond Dawgs side, Jeff Hughes delivered the hit to win the game. To end the day on Saturday we were matched against Walker/Tanel's out of Indy. We jumped out early and led the whole way winning 13-7.

The if game was up next. Well we hit into 4 rally killing double plays. The outcome showed it as we lost 8-6 and fell one game short again. Bash for Cash D NIT
    March 15, 2006  --
    2006 Bash For Cash Recap
    March 18, 2006 -  --

    Two-N-Out.com Tourney Recap
By: AP Two-N-Out.com Beat Writer, Shawn Sproles

This past weekend we played in the USSSA "Bash for Cash" D NIT at Rivershore. We ended up going 5-2 taking 2nd place out of a 43 team field.

Our first game was against the American Legion Bombsquad. We overcame 7 homeruns for out and a "Chief" inning to escape with a 11-7 victory. Game two Sat night pitted us against a new squad (Pridecast/S&W) from NKY for the 2006 season. We took a 9-2 lead into the fourth when Pridecast had a player ejected for arguing with the umpire. That left them with nine and under NIT's rules they could not finish the game. We ended up winning this one by forfeit. We came back Sunday morning 2-0 and Cooper Auto out of Dayton, OH was next. For the first time all year we hit like we knew we could. We scored two runs in the first then exploded in the 2nd and 3rd. Final of the game was 20-2 in 5 five innings. In the semifinals we were matched against the Titans out of Cleveland OH. We again had a little problem of keeping the ball in the yard this game. We hit 6 hr's for outs. We could not get anything going offensively and they broke open a 2-1 game in the fourth going up 7-1. We tried to mount a comeback but fell short and lost 9-5. Our first opponent in the loser's bracket was Team Bring It our of Cincy. After a classic dance off between our two teams before the game, we ended up winning this one 11-1. Pomp pitched a good game and the defense behind him played well. Next up was the Dizzy Roosters out of Louisiville. In the fourth inning they jumped out to a huge 15-6 lead. We stayed strong and ended up taking a 19-15 lead into the top of the 7th. They plated four to knot the score. We failed to score in our home half of the 7th, so extra innings we went. We again held them to no runs in the top of the 8th. In our home half, Jeff Hughes got some help on a misplayed ball and ended up leading off the inning with a double. They intentionally walked Mike Hughes and Mike Sellet to load the bases. Brian Cook came up next and sent a shot into right to win the game. Off to the championship we went. Dawg pack was our opponent and we had to double dip them to win the tourney. We jumped out early and held an 11-4 lead at one point. They hit well in the fourth and fifth to take the lead. We were down by one going into the top of the 7th but could not push another run across. We fell short losing 15-14.

We had some guys who won some tourney awards. Jeff Hughes (CF) won the Oustanding Defensive Player of the tourney award. Jeff had 4 assists and they all came at big times.

We had four players who made the all tourney team:
    P- Tony Pompilio
    OF- Mike Hughes
    SS- Mike Sellet
    1B- Chris Malay
