Head Coach

Drew Werney

This is Coach Werney's first year heading the Boys' lacrosse program for Aliso Niguel High School.  Coach Werney comes from Westchester County, New York where he was the head varsity coach for Irvington High School for eight years.  Coach Werney's team made the playoffs all eight years he was the head coach and was anointed coach of the year for his league two times, most recently 2016.

Coach Werney was a multi sport athlete in high school while attending Somers High School. After high school Coach Werney attended one year of post graduate at Bridgton Academy where he played lacrosse.

Coach Werney then went on to become a four year lacrosse letterman at Stony Brook University, a perennial NCAA Division I powerhouse, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in American History.  Coach Werney then went on to achieve a Master's degree in Physical Education from Manhattanville College.  Upon graduation, Coach Werney started his own club team and developed his own lacrosse camps and plans to bring both facets out West with him. He was also the co-director of an elite club travel team out of New York.   Coach Werney was also an assistant coach for the Polish National Team for the 2014 World Games, that were held in Denver, CO.

Coach Zach Henderson- Head JV Coach

 

Coach Henderson, a 2010 Aliso Niguel High School graduate, played lacrosse all four years of his high school career, including being a member of the first club lacrosse team at Aliso.  He was a two year varsity member as an attackmen, and after high school chose to move out to Montana to pursue his hockey career.  

He has since moved back to California full time, and is a graduate from California State University, Fullerton where he majored in Kinesiology, along with a concentration in Teacher Education.  Coach Henderson also played for the club hockey team there, which has become a Regional contender on a perennial basis.

Coach Henderson is currently fulfilling his year-long duty of student teaching, which is taking place at Beckman High School. Upon completion, he will be a credentialed Physical Education teacher in the state of California.

Zach is now entering his seventh season of coaching for the Wolverines, where he is the Head Coach of JV Black, and has assumed responsibilities for all teams wherever needed.

Coach Shane Diamond Assistant Coach

Coach Shane Diamond enjoys sharing his love of Lacrosse with up and coming players. Coach Diamond started playing Lacrosse his sophmore year at Aliso Niguel High School, the first year it became an offical sport. That same year he was a captian of the JV team and was on man up. His Junior year he made Varsity and started on the man down team.  As a Senior he played both man up and down, contributing to the team's first trip to the play offs.

After graduating ANHS in 2010, Shane attended OCC and IVC before taking some time off  to pursue a career in music, his first passion. Shane is currently attending California State University, Fullerton where he is a member of the MCLA Division 2 lacrosse team.. 

Shane came out as a volunteeer coach for the Wolverine 2014 season, and was brought back in 2015 as a full time member of the coaching staff. 

Coach Alex Branton- Assistant Coach

Coach Branton comes from Ridgewood, New Jersey, where he was a starting goalie for the well known Ridgewood High School lacrosse program.

Coach Branton went on to attend Clemson University where he was the starting goalie of the lacrosse team for two years.  Coach Branton decided to bring his knowledge of the game out west where he is completing his college studies. He is currently attending Orange Coast College, and then plans to transfer to Cal State Long Beach to receive a degree in History.  He hopes to secure a teaching position upon graduation. This is Coach Branton's 2nd year with the Wolverine Staff.

Coach Evan Gattuso- Assistant Coach

Coach Gattuso is in his first year on the Wolverine Coaching Staff.  Coach Gattuso graduated from Aliso Niguel H.S in 2016 where he was the starting goalie for the Varsity team.  Coach Gatusso holds the all time single season save percentage leader for the program.  Coach Gatusso is currently attending Saddleback College where he is completing all his undergraduate courses with the mindset to transfer to a UC school.

Coach Andrew McCaffrey- JV Teal Coach

Coach McCaffrey originally comes from the Chicago area where he accumulated seven years of head coaching experience.

Before getting into coaching, he attended Carleton College where he was a standout member of the lacrosse team. After receiving his degree in English Language and Literature he helped build the Glenbard West, Illinois lacrosse program to a varsity level.  He then went on to become the head coach at St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago, Illinois where he won the Illinois lacrosse cup championship, with his players setting records for that season.  He specializes in the fundamentals of the game for the development of each player.  We are pleased to have Coach McCaffrey join the staff this year.

Coach McCaffrey is well known for his world renowned stick trick skills.
