DISTINGUISHED INDIAN VOLUNTEERS - "WALL OF MERIT"
Please take time to say thanks to these special volunteers!
Check back often as we continue to highlight newly nominated members

David and Kathy Wymer: Indian Baseball Players are Zac and Josh Wymer. David and Kathy have been actively involved in fundraising, concession duty and facility improvement. As David and Kathy describe it, we decided to give the Varsity locker room a makeover for the 2009 season. We wanted the boys to have a place that they can be proud of and a place where they can hang out before games. We have enjoyed being a part of Indian baseball for four years and look forward to four more years! It is our pleasure to give back to the program.

Kathy Merck: Indian Baseball Players are Kasey and Kaleb Merck (2008). Kathy has been actively involved in fundraising, concession duty, spirit committee, golf tournament, media guide, photography, senior night, tournament volunteer, facility improvement.

As Kathy describes it, right now I have my hands in a little bit of everything. I am in charge of spirit wear selling t-shirts and stadium seats. I am in charge of media guide, selling ads, taking pictures, working on the layout with the printer and proofing. Selling media guide ads to the parents.  I worked the concession stand a bazillion times.  I was in charge of getting/organizing items for the Golf Tournament raffle.  I was the Varsity Team Parent. I am the KAB Baseball Liaison acting as the go between Coach Stramp and The Keller Athletic Booster Club. I organized the baseball banquet.  What needs to be done I try and get it done. As you can see I need some help and would like to get others involved.

It is a lot of fun and you get to work with some great parents.

Kenny Smith: Indian Baseball Players are Ryne Smith-2002 and Connor Smith-2010. Kenny has been actively involved as a scoreboard/announcer photographer, videographer (see 300), golf tournament, as well as senior night.

As Kenny describes it, I filmed the varsity players during one of their "300 Workout" sessions. I edited the footage and added music which the players use during the workout. I believe the video is indicative of the hard work and dedication, not only of our varsity players, but all players in the Keller High School baseball program. It is not by accident we have made the playoffs for six consecutive years. I believe we will make it seven in a row this year.

I have had the privilege of filming the varsity baseball seasons for the past six years. That first year (2002) my oldest son was a senior and I volunteered to take photos to chronicle the season. That has evolved into a yearly video production, shown at the end-of-year banquet. I've now seen in excess of 100 players come through the varisty program and anytime I see one of our former players they tell me they still watch their varsity year's tape/DVD occasionally. I look forward to filming for at least three more years (until Connor graduates)...ahh, who am I kidding, I'll probably do it as long as I can still hold a camera steady. When I think back on all the great kids I've met and the triumphs, tears, and laughs we've shared over the years, I'm glad I raised my hand at that first baseball meeting I attended. I encourage all parents to volunteer in any capacity they can. You never know, it may just turn out to be something you never dreamed of. For me, it's turned out that the expertise I've picked up over the years of filming and editing has pointed me toward my retirement hobby/job.

Jan Smith: Indian Baseball Players are Ryne Smith-2002 and Connor Smith-2010. Jan has been actively involved as fundraising, golf tournament, spirit committee, tournament volunteer, concession as well as senior night.

As Jan describes it, since 2002 I have been actively involved in Keller Baseball doing anything from planning the end of year banquet, to helping organize this year's golf tournament. I've worked in the concession stand and helped with spirit wear sales. One of my fondest memories was hosting a team dinner during our oldest son's varsity year. Wow, those boys can eat!

I've also had the opportunity through my company's involvement to be a corporate sponsor for the KHS baseball program. My company, EECU, donated the Indians Field sign as you enter the ballpark. We have also sponsored an outfield sign, purchased Rangers tickets, and sponsored the summer camp t-shirts for the past 5 years. Having the opportunity not only to donate my time as a parent but to have also had the pleasure of supporting the baseball program through corporate sponsorship and involvement has been doubly rewarding.
This year I will serve as a Tournament Coordinator, JV Team Parent, help with the golf tournament, spirit wear sales, concession stand duty, and any other project that comes along.
There's a lot to do and I promise you will enjoy the time you spend in support of our boy’s baseball program at KHS!
