HOW IT ALL STARTED.......
At the old A.O.H Div 87 hall, there were a group of the boys...members and social members who had been kicking around the idea of bringing football back to this neighborhood. It seemed this fine game was fading in Port Richmond and Kensington...which was the best reason to get it going again. On a spring night in 1961 they got together in the old hall on Thompson St. and George McGrath wanted to know what they called those little people in Ireland...someone said: "Leprechauns"... two or three voices said: "thats it"... and that was it.
On a hot August evening about thirty little people in polo shirts and dungarees checked in at Richmond and Allegheny. Equipment wasn't much then... one well worn football, but they knew who they were... when Herbie Smith asked "do you know what your name is?"...about thirty ninety-pounders responded ..."yeah the LEPRECHAUNS" WORD WAS OUT.
