Z2006 - Middies Place 8th at Ohio Grade School State Tournament
    March 19, 2006  --
14 wrestlers from Middletown Youth Wrestling participated in the 3rd annual Ohio Grade School State Tournament on March 18th and 19th 2006 in St. John's arena in Steubenville, Ohio.   In arguably the toughest tournament series in Ohio with over 2000 wrestlers challenging for 32 individual state titles the Middletown Wrestlers had a great showing.

After placing 2nd two years ago and 6th last year, Christian Estes finally achieved that elusive goal by winning the 120 pound Division 3 Ohio Grade School State Championship.  Christian not only won the state championship, he made a statement by pinning his opponents quickly or scoring at least 13 points on each of them and finally Tech Falling his opponent in the Finals of the tournament.

Andrew Globke finished in Fifth place in the Division III 95 pound weight class.  Andrew's hard work this year paid off as he had to battle back from a hard loss at districts and a third place finish.  Andrew proved that he deserved to be a District champion when he beat the District champions from the Oregon Clay District, the Uniontown Lake District and the Mason District.  His only losses on the weekend came from the 2nd and 3rd place finishers in the state tournament.  Andrew also beat an opponent that up until this point he had never beaten in Michael Blum from Moeller.

Jacob Globke Finished in Fifth place in the Division II 70 pound weight class.  Jacob had an impressive tournment.  Jacob's first loss came in the Semi-finals in a close match with Ryan Harris who was a state champion two years ago and a consolation champion last year.  Jacob went on to beat the 2nd place finisher from last year to earn the Fifth Place position on the podium.

Andrew Smith finished in Sixth Place.  A person would never know that Andrew has only been wrestling for three years. Andrew wrestled a great tournment and finished in 6th place.  Andrew has a great career ahead of him and will only get better as time goes on.

Middletown Youth Wrestling placed 8th as a team with 107.5 points.  This was an impressive finish considering there were schools from all over the state of Ohio represented.  All wrestlers that participated from Middletown contributed in some way to this finish.  The other wrestlers participating at the state tournament were: Taylor Rose, Matthew Helton, Nick Reeves, Desmond Hall, Ova Venters, Jordan Puska, Ty'Juan Davis, Jadon Stephenson, Josh Bowling, Garrett Downard and  Colton Downard.

Great Job Wrestlers you represented us well.
