Growlers Split at Fordians Fest May 21, 2007 --
Growlers split a twinbill at the waterford Fordians Baseball Fest. In the opener the Growlers defeated the Fordians 6-4 The Growler pitching was dominate. Mike Devens, Jason Seaman and Landon Rivera combined on a five hitter. Devens Picked up the win and Landon Rivera picked up his first save of the year. In the bottom of the 7th inning Cf Keith Vaughn made a Willie Mays Style catch in deep centerfield and gained an OF assist doubling off the runner at first to stall a Fordians rally. In the Nightcap the Fordians downed the Growlers 9-4. Vinnie Longo suffered the loss on the mound. The Growler hitting attack was led by Longo who was 2-2 with an RBI. The Growlers will have a brief season break and their schedule will begin again June 6th at Cronimer Field vs League Rival Phillies at 7:30pm
Growler Losing Streak ends May 17, 2007 --
The Growlers ended thier dreadful eight game losing streak but out scoring the Newburgh Spartans at Cronmier field on Tuesday. Shane Mitchell picked up the win going 5 innings scattering seven hits and striking out seven. The Growlers bats came out of hypernation to score 12 runs on 11 hits. Cf Mike Devens and 3b Dan Haight each had three hits and DH Bryan Gamache continued to swing a hot bat going 2-4 with a 2b and 1b Mark Milroy was 1-3 with a 3b and 3 rbi. The Growlers scored eight runs in the first ininng but that was not enough. The Spartans clawed back inning by inning only to leave the winning run on 2nd base in the last half of the eight where reliever Jason Seaman pitched his way out of jam and recorded his first save of the season. The Growlers Travel to Waterford NY to compete in the Fordians Baseball Fest this sunday May 20th. Mike Devens will be on the mound for game one and the starter for game two is tba.
Growlers outlast Brewers April 25, 2007 --
The Growlers opened up their league season with a 9-8 win over the Brewers. The Growlers Had a strong pitching performance from Shane Mitchell. Shane pitched 9 innings scattering 6 hits while striking out 9. Alex Forster pitched the tenth picking up his first save of the season while striking out 2. The Growler bats were led by Dan Milroy and Bryan Gamache with two hits a peice. SS Joe McLaughlin had a double and drove in two runs. The Growlers defense continue its quality play with two more double plays. The Growlers host the Albany Road Dogs on Saturday April 28th at 12 and 330 at FDR High School.
Growlers edge Padres April 22, 2007 --
The Growlers used their speed,timley hitting and defense to edge the Bronx Padres 9-6 on Saturday. The Growler hitting attack was led by Darian Rivera, Bryan Gamache and Joe McLaughlin with 2 hits each. and Justin Contursi continued to be an RBI machine driving in two more runs.The Growlers also swiped 8 bases and Alex Forster picked up his first win in relief for the Growlers pitching 3 1/3 innings allowing one run and striking out 2. Also on defense the Growlers turned 2 double plays and CF Mark Milroy made and over the shoulder catch in in the bottom of 7th. The Growlers begin there league games Tuesday April 24th at 7pm at Cronimer field in Newburgh vs. The Brewers.
Growlers Split Opening day Doubleheader with Dinosaurs April 7, 2007 --
The Growlers opened the 2007 season in the Bronx vs the New York Dinosaurs. The Growlers fell short in the opener 7-6 despite a strong pitching performance from Jason Seaman. The Growlers held a 6-3 lead going into the home half of the seventh until Seaman began to tire. He ultimately loaded the bases on a single and two walks with one out and Dinosaurs Catcher Javier Crushed Seaman's first pitch for a walk off grandslam. The Growler attack was led by CF Mark Milroy who was 3-4 with two triples and 2 RBI's. Also for the Growlers Catcher Mike Devens was 3-4 with a double and RF Justin Contursi drove in 3 runs.
In Game two the Growlers rebounded from the stunning loss by scoring 5 runs off Dinosaurs Starter Andrew Ragsley and downed the Dinosaurs 5-1. Pete Longo got the win on the mound scattering 6 hits over 5 1/3 innings while striking out 7. Joe Mclaughlin picked up his first save of the year by pitching out a bases loaded jam in the 6th.The Growler hitting attack was led by 2B Darian Rivera who was 2-3 with a double and a run scored and RF Justin Contursi continued to drive in runs with two more Rbi. The Growlers also managed to steal home twice in the 4th inning this feat was accomplished by Mark Milroy and Dan Haight.
The Growlers take on the Rockland Cavaliers at FDR high school next sunday April 15th at 12:30
