SNLL All Star player and manager selection

Preamble: These rules are intended to supplement, and not replace, existing Little League rules on player and manager selection. All existing rules on player eligibility and the timing of player selection shall remain in place, as set forth in the Little League “Green Book.”

The SNLL views the Little League tournament season as a highly competitive and highly rewarding time in a players Little League career. In keeping with these beliefs, the SNLL will always attempt to give managers of the tournament teams a lot of freedom when selecting their rosters. It is assumed that each manager will put the best team possible together based on available strengths and weaknesses when compared with each managers style. In any event involving a disagreement between managers regarding player availability or any unforeseen issues, the SNLL Board and/or All Star Committee has final say in all player certifications.

(a) The Board of Directors may select an All-Star Committee (the “Committee”). The Committee shall be comprised of existing Board members. League President may, but is not required to, be a member of the Committee.

(b) If there is an All Star Committee, then the Committee shall be responsible for the selection of managers to represent Summerlin North Little League in officially sanctioned All-Star competition. In the absence of a committee, the Board may vote on the managers if multiple managers have requested a team.

(c) Selection of All-Star managers:

(1) All-Star managers shall be chosen at the sole discretion of the Committee/Board.

(2) The Committee may select All-Star managers at any point during the Spring season but should consider selecting the managers prior to the end of the regular season.

(3) The Committee shall consider the following criteria when choosing an All-Star manager:

(A) Season performance;

(B) Background and experience in baseball including previous All-Star experience

(C) Ability to communicate with players and parents;

(D) Ability to develop players;

(E) Sportsmanship; and

(F) Cooperation with Summerlin North Little League and its Board

(4) Selection as an All-Star manager does not assure that manager’s son/daughter of selection to the All-Star team.

(d) Selection of All-Star players

(1) All-Star players selection shall be chosen in coordination between the manager, coaches, and the All-Star Committee

(2) The Committee and the coaches shall consider the following criteria when choosing an All-Star player:

(A) Overall ability, in current and past seasons;

(B) Regular season performance;

(C) Performance at All-Star try-outs

(D) Demonstration of a special skill that will assist the performance of the All-Star team in All-Star competition; For example a player who is fast or whom can bunt; and

(E) Availability for All-Star competition.

The Board of Directors has the option on the number of teams in each division.  The Board will make the decision on having a 9/10, 10/11, 11/12 year old All-Star team each season along with Little League Intermediate (50/70) and Juniors. The tournament team manager for each division will determine the number of players on their roster with a minimum of 12 players and maximum of 14 players or as determined by Little League rules.

(3) The Committee will hold one or more player evaluations to decide All-Star team composition. The Committee will determine how the evaluations will be conducted. At the conclusion of the evaluations, the manager for each team will present the desired roster to the All-Star committee. The manager should be ready to articulate to the committee (if necessary) why each player was selected. The Committee may veto any submitted roster if it appears the manager has made selections that are not in the best interest of Summerlin North Little League.

(4) Every player who wishes to be considered for All-Star selection shall provide the Committee with a statement of commitment (the “Commitment Letter”). Failure to submit a Commitment Letter may disqualify a player from consideration as an All-Star.

PLAYER SELECTION - MINOR LEAGUE THROUGH LITTLE LEAGUE
Players for the tournament teams will be chosen as follows:
-All players who return completed All-Star forms will be eligible to be placed on the list of
players to be voted on in their tournament age divisions regardless of league division they played in. Managers will nominate a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 6 players in the AAA division. Majors managers may nominate up to 8 players from their regular season team for all star selection.
-Per the Little League Green Book, players may be selected to more than one tournament team however, are only allowed to play with one team. In an effort to keep the experience as pleasurable for the layers as possible, the SNLL has decided that in an event where a player is selected to more than one team, the decision on which age group to participate in lies solely with the player and his/her family.  The player/family should consider playing time, fellow team mates, and if they plan on moving forward with the team in future years.
