Chuck Duarte signs letter of intent with Western Texas
Senior Chuck Duarte will sign a letter of intent with Western Texas in Snyder, Texas on Thursday in the Franklin library. Western Texas College in the NJCA and the program is under the direction of 2nd year Head Coach Craig Moore. Chuck was a big part of the Cougar success last season and led the team in hits (45)and fielding percentage (.935) on his way to being chosen to the Texas High School All-State 2nd Team. Duarte, also was chosen to the El Paso Times All-City team and was an All-District selection as well. Duarte hit .468 last season overall and .520 in District 1-5A and broke the Franklin single-season hit record previously held by Cougar Hall of Fame inductee Nick Hinojos. "We are incredibly proud of Chuck and know that this was a decision that he is really excited about and I know he will continue his success at the next level," Say's Head Coach Larry Vucan. Chuck continues a tradition within the program of being the 20th Franklin Baseball Player over the past four years to sign a college scholarship, including one professional signee in Josh Blanco with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
This is a great honor and a great testament to his Mother Elena and father Tony who have done such a great job with Chuck.

Cougars Sqeek out a 4-3 Win Over Hanks
Cougars hold off the Hank Knights to Win 4-3 2nd Baseman Mario Parra hits a hard shot to short stop and gets an RBI single in the 2nd Inning. Ian Ekery took care of business in the 7 innings he pitched. The Cougars continue on a roll in the 2nd half of the season. Up Next Bel Air on Friday and Montwood visits the Cougars on Saturday.

Franklin beats Socorro 5-0
Texas High School Baseball - Socorro loses to Franklin
(April 17, 2009: El Paso, TX 79912) The Franklin Cougars the visiting Socorro Bulldogs baseball team by a count of 5-0 in Friday's league bout.
The Cougars now possess a 12-7 record. They take the field next when they travel to Eastwood for a 5A Region I District 1 bout on Saturday, April 18. Franklin will face a Troopers team coming off a 3-2 league win over El Dorado (El Paso, TX). The Troopers record now stands at 11-10.
Next, the Bulldogs face the Americas Trail Blazers (El Paso, TX) in a 5A Region I District 1 bout, on Saturday, April 18. Socorro will attempt to move on its 19-3 season record. The Trail Blazers enter the bout with a 17-5 record after their 7-0 league loss to Franklin (El Paso, TX).
