The Story of NHS Football
Records found in El Dorado newspapers of the 1920's indicate football has been played at NHS since the 1925 season and continued through the 1938 season until a fire destroyed the gym and all of the football equipment.
Following the end of World War 2, in the fall of 1946, Norphlet began playing once again. Previous to the War, Norphlet's opponents included teams from Smackover, Standard-Umpsted, Louann, Chidester, Mt. Holly, Huttig, Stephans, Camden, Fordyce, and others. Scores during this period were not well documented so Norphlet begins the "Modern Football Era" in the year of 1946.
Many times Norphlet laid claim to what was then called the "Oil Field Championship". This title came from competition with other towns who derive their main source of income from the great oil boom of the 1920 era. Other records indicate that in 1925 one of the first teams Norphlet played was Junction City, a rivalry game still played to this day.
Since 1946, a span of 60 seasons, Norphlet High School has laid claim to 1 State Championship, 1 State Runner Up Title, and 8 District or Conference Titles.
