OUTLOOK: Returns as the team’s starting quarterback … was named to the third-team All-Sun Belt team by Phil Steele’s College Football magazine … a strong-armed thrower with great athleticism, Leak returns as the Trojans’ most experienced quarterback and one of only four on the roster heading into the fall … a mobile player, Leak can tuck and run and often turns broken plays into gainers with his speed.
2004 Game Notes: Opened season with a 38-yard completion to Jason Samples on first pass of year against Marshall...Followed on third play with a 15-yard TD run...Suffered sprained ankle on TD run against Marshall, but stayed in the game...Completed 13 of 26 passes against Herd for 196 yards...First TD pass of season came in fourth quarter against Missouri, a 33-yard strike to Samples, to secure the victory over the Tigers...Hit on just seven of 20 passes against the Tigers for 94 yards...Completed 10 of 19 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown at New Mexico State...Completed nine of 21 passes for 108 yards, but was intercepted twice at South Carolina...Had eight rush attempts for 23 yards against the Gamecocks...Had a near-perfect day against Utah State, completing nine of 10 pass attempts for 120 yards and three touchdowns.
2003: Played in all 12 games for the Trojans in 2003, starting the final 10 … took over the starting role from incumbent Hansell Bearden, following a back injury suffered by Bearden against Minnesota, before the UAB game and never relinquished it … finished the season with 1,427 passing yards and was third on the team with 208 rushing yards … recorded a season-high 237 passing yards and three touchdowns, including a 62-yard touchdown pass to Bryant Stewart, in the Trojans’ home opener against Southeastern Louisiana on Sept. 20 … posted a season-high 61.1 completion percentage by completing 11-of-18 passes for 131 yards against UAB on Sept. 13 to help the Trojans upend their bitter rivals … rushed for a season-high 81 yards in the Trojans’ victory over the Blazers … recorded first rushing touchdown of his career against Minnesota on Sept. 6 … also rushed for touchdowns against UAB and Utah State on Nov. 15 … carried a season-high 15 times for 40 yards against Virginia on Oct. 25 in front of hundreds of family members and friends … completed 12-of-22 passes for 220 yards and one touchdown against Florida International on Oct. 18 … completed 17 of a career-high 41 pass attempts for 192 yards and two touchdowns against Louisiana-Monroe in the Trojans’ season finale on Nov. 22 … recorded first career reception on a 24-yard pass from Jason Samples against Virginia.
PRIOR TO TROY: Spent the 2002 season at Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Miss. … played in 10 games at quarterback for coach Parker Dykes…led the Bobcats to an 8-4 record and a No. 15 national ranking…ranked 15th nationally in passing in 2002, completing 105 of 235 passes (44.68 percent) for 1,794 yards, eight touchdowns and 11 interceptions…averaged 179.4 yards passing per game.
PRIOR TO JCJC: Spent the 2000 and 2001 seasons at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill…was redshirted in 2000…played in two games for the Tar Heels in 2001…finished the season with one completion in four attempts for 24 yards passing and one carry for three rushing yards…completed his only pass attempt for 24 yards in the Tar Heels’ 41-9 win over Florida State on Sept. 22, 2001...completed four of eight passes for 83 yards and one touchdown in the Tar Heels’ spring game in 2001.
