News Briefs from around the PDL SouthwestMarch 26, 2008
The San Fernando Valley Quakes have two players signed to the MLS this week. Striker Bryan Jordan was signed by the LA Galaxy after working with them for several months. Jordan played with the Quakes for 7 matches during their inaugrial season in 2006, and played an average of 45 minutes per game. While his stats for the Quakes was not particularly outstanding in that brief time, his play caught the eye of the Portland Timbers of the USL-1. Jordan went on to score five goals and one assist in 26 matches for the Timbers this past season. Daniel Paladini signed with the Chivas USA this week also. Paladini played in 14 games for the Quakes last season, scoring three goals, and helping guide the team to their first ever PDL playoff campaign. The Quakes pre-season included a match this week against the Los Angeles Galaxy. Beaten 3-1 by the Galaxy in an "exhibition open practice" game in front of 4,000 Galaxy fans at the Home Depot Center, the SFV Quakes found the experience of playing the likes of Donovan, Beckham, and Ruiz rewarding.. The game was the centerpiece of Galaxy’s FanFest 2008, the traditional season-opening club celebration prior to the upcoming Major League Soccer season, and the Quakes felt they held their own quite well in the contest.
