Elijah Asante, who took on all comers as Jordan High School’s football coach, has been named to head the football program at Carson.

He replaces Mike Christensen, who recently left to take the football coaching job at Loyola.

Meanwhile, Sharon Butler, who has been the track coach at Jordan and on the football coaching staff at South Gate, is Jordan’s new football coach.

Coaching at a place like Carson, which has high expectations because of its winning tradition brings special challenges for Asante.

But no challenges were too big for Asante, whose preleague schedule included the likes of Mater Dei, Esperanza, St. Bonaventure and Edison during his five years.

He also sent a number of players on to college, including record-breaking quarterback/defensive end James Boyd, now at USC. Deshawn Beck was City player of the year on the coaches’ team this fall.
