Top-seeded Carson High School controlled Taft's potent passing attack and the offense more than did its part Friday in a 40-21 victory in the City Section Division I football semifinals.

The Colts (11-2) will now face No. 2 Crenshaw (11-2) next Saturday at the Coliseum in the title game.

Michael Bercovici came into the game as the City's leading passer, but he was limited to 165 yards and a TD through the air by the aggressive Carson secondary. Tracey Harris had an interception for the Colts.

In the first half, Kendell Sparks had a 24-yard scoring run and Nestor Lorente kicked two field goals to help the Colts to a 14-7 lead.

In the second half, running backs Dion Willis (10 carries for 113 yards) and Miles Johnson (16 for 107) helped them control the game. Willis ran for a pair of TDs.

Justin Alo passed for 107 yards and a score.

Tyrell Galloway scored on a 15-yard fumble return on a botched punt attempt by Taft (9-4).

Division II
Fairfax 36, Arleta 12: Behind the running of Matt Bowen Jr., Fairfax roared into the Division II title game with a convincing 36-12 victory over Arleta Friday.

Bowen, the City's leading rusher, carried 24 times for 241 yards and two TDs. The big night pushed the senior's totals to 2,180 yards and 24 TDs on the season.

Terrance Hall added 111 yards and two scores on 17 carries and quarterback Joe Floyd had a rushing TD for the Lions (8-3-1). Don Tyler Jr. led the defense with nine tackles.

The Lions will play Chatsworth (11-2) in the final next Friday at East L.A. College. Chatsworth advanced with a 35-28 overtime win over Palisades.
