Fairfax High School built a 17-0 lead by halftime and went on to defeat top-seeded Roosevelt, 24-7 Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the City Section Division II football playoffs.

The Lions (7-5) will take on No. 4 Hamilton in an All-Western League matchup in the semifinals Dec. 4. The Yankees defeated Franklin, 26-15 in the quarters.

Roosevelt (10-2) finally scored in the third quarter on a run by Jesse Lira (seven carries for 23 yards and four receptions for 45).

But the Rough Riders were largely ineffective offensively, with the exception of Manny Ayon.

The senior quarterback carried 13 times for 108 yards and was 8 of 15 for 74 yards passing.

In the other quarterfinal games, El Camino Real defeated Poly, 42-21 and Arleta topped Cleveland, 30-23. Arleta is the defending champion in Division II.
