Kenneth Medwood


Representing East L.A. College in the state community college track and field championships Friday and Saturday at Cerritos College.

Qualifying from last weekend’s Southern Regionals in Bakersfield were Kenneth Medwood in the long jump and 400 hurdles, Gyasi Rivers in the triple jump, Anthony Reese in the 800 (1:55.14), Conroy Black in the 100 (10.68) and 200 (21.20) and Kevin Martinez in the 400 hurdles (54.80). Reese was third, Black was fourth in both sprints and Martinez was fifth.

Medwood, Reese, Black and Rivers make up the 4 by 100 relay team that also qualified for state.

Rivers, a product of Hollywood High School, is one of the favorites in the triple jump. Possessor of the second best mark in the nation, he went 52-4 to finish first at the regionals.

Medwood, a Roosevelt grad, won the 400 hurdles in 52.97 and was fifth in the long jump (23-6 1/2).

ELAC placed fourth as a team at the regionals.
