Sixty local elementary and middle school students brought classical music to life on their first debut concert last Thursday.

Ranging from the ages of six through 13, the Boyle Heights Community Youth Orchestra was founded only last June by artistic director Dr. Suzanne Gindin and associate director Michael Hudson-Medina in hopes of bringing classical music education back to Boyle Heights.

Violins, flutes and trumpets filled the auditorium at Hollenbeck Middle School from students belonging to schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District as well as charter and Catholic schools in Boyle Heights and East L.A.

Summer registration will take place on Saturday, June 1 at 9 a.m. at the Salesian Boys & Girls Club located at 3218 Wabash Ave. Los Angeles, CA. 90063.
