Baseball: Scott Pearson is leaving L.A. Cathedral to coach at Warren
August 1, 2012 | 2:06 pm

Scott Pearson, who built L.A. Cathedral into a Southern Section small schools baseball powerhouse, has resigned to become head coach at Downey Warren.

Cathedral won three league titles in Pearson's three seasons as coach. He previously coached for 10 years at L.A. Roosevelt, where he also was a teacher. He's leaving his teaching position to become a teacher and head coach at Warren. Family considerations are a major factor in his decision.

"It hurts to leave, but I have to take a leap of faith," Pearson said.

Cathedral is moving to Division 3 next season and was expected to be a title contender. But Pearson's departure has already led to one top player leaving. Junior catcher Mike Palos has transferred to Bishop Amat.

Junior varsity coach Gus Pelayo will succeed Pearson at Cathedral.
