POLICIES & PROCEDURES ~ NEW COACHES

MIAMI LAKES YOUTH SPORTS COACH GUIDELINES

The Town of Miami Lakes requires all coaches of youth sports to go through a coach certification

process, Background Consent/Release process, and are required to wear a Coach ID at all times

when coaching. Below are guidelines for new and returning coaches to follow to adhere to said

requirements.

If you are a New Coach:

STEP 1: Certification

All Miami Lakes Youth Sports coaches are required to complete a Town approved

Youth Sports Certification Class for their respective sport. If you have been certified

in another sport this year and have a current certification, you only need to complete

the sport-specific portion of the certification training.

The Town currently offers onsite National Youth Sports Coaches Association

training classes for no fee (new coaches only). Clinics will be located at the Miami

Lakes Community Center West 15151 Montrose Road (NW 82nd Avenue).

Upcoming Class Dates:

Spring Baseball/Softball Certification: Thursday, January 31, 2008; 6pm-9pm

Spring Baseball/Softball Certification: Saturday, February 2, 2008; 9am-12pm

NYSCA Coaches Clinics may also be taken online:

http://www.nays.org/nyscaonlineclinics/

There is a $25 fee for online clinics.

STEP 2: Background Check

All new and returning coaches must complete a Background Consent/Release form.

All coaches must submit a new Background Consent/Release form after July 1, 2008

to be permitted to coach within the Town of Miami Lakes.

Forms are available at:

1. Miami Lakes Park Office located at 6411 NW 162 Street Monday-Friday

10am-9pm

2. Online at www.miamilakes-fl.gov/c-onlineservices/download.php

3. By email request at olivierif@townofmiamilakes.com

4. By calling the park office at 305-556-0771.

All Background Consent/Release forms must be directly faxed or mailed by the

coach to Southeastern Security Consultants, Inc. (SSCI) at 866-996-7412.

STEP 3: Coach ID Card

All new and returning coaches must have a valid Town of Miami Lakes Coach ID

Card to be able to be able to coach youth sports in Miami Lakes.

Coach ID Card color: Blue Only, July 1, 2007 – June 30, 2008.

All Coach ID Cards must be renewed by July 1, 2008 to be permitted to continue

coaching within the Town of Miami Lakes.

Coach ID Cards are available at the Miami Lakes Park Office located at 6411 NW

162 Street Monday-Friday 6pm-9pm and Saturdays from 10am-2pm (tentative).

To obtain a Coach ID Card, a prospective coach must meet the following

requirements:

1. All coaches will be required to show proof of NYSCA/Approved Coaches

certification.

2. Coaches must then fill out a Background Consent/Release form.

3. Coaches will take a picture and the ID is distributed
