2006 Crystal Coast All Stars Place 3rd in State Tourney
The 16-18 Crystal Coast All Stars placed 3rd in the North Carolina State Babe Ruth Tournament in Tarboro, NC. Out of 11 teams we managed to claw and fight our way into the finals. With the challenges that this team had to face, finishing in third place shows the heart that our players truely have.
With a "known" illegal team being allowed to enter the tournament it changed game times and the bracket that we were to play in. Then, at the last moment the powers-that-be "decided" to drop the illegal team, and once again it changed our bracket and game times.
We were truely hamstrung. With key players unable to make games, other key players stepped up and we made a run for the championship. Because all of our "new" games were to be played in the middle of the day, this team not only had to battle the tournament directors but the heavey heat of a Tarboro summer.
I'm not making excuses and neither are my players, they fought with everything they had and we left with our heads held high. Other coaches and even one of the tournament officals told me that we were hung out to dry from the start. That may have been, I dont know. What I do know is that the 2006 Crystal Coast ALL STARS were the strongest team in Tarboro. And if the original bracket was used.........
