On a rainy night at West Linn HS, Chad Wilbur and Andrew Conway conbined for six goals and jr. midfielder Jeff Hodson added another pair to lead the Cats to a first round playoff victory over Central Catholic and set up a rematch of their 2nd round showdown with Lakeridge from two years ago. Bradford Patey was dominant at the face-off X which helped the Cats control the tempo of the game while sophomore goalie Taylor Eaton rose to the occasion with several saves at point blank range against the gutsy Rams. Defensively the trio of Michael Carpeneter, Austin Kane and Blake Harlow combined for 21 groundballs. "The defense set the tone for us, and the offense answered the call" said Coach Sanford after the game, "when you see three guys combine for picking up 21 groundballs in the defensive end of the field, you know you're defense is doing a good job and that they are going to be tough to beat." The offense matched the defense intensity with a six goal run through much of the second and third quarter putting the game out of reach... and sending the Cats forward to the second round.
The win comes on the heels of the Cats competing an 11-3 regular season where they placed 12 athletes on the NWOC all-conference team including six on the first team and finished 2nd in the conference.
The team's season would end in the 2nd round against Lakeridge, but everyone was pretty happy with the showing of the 5A Wildcats.
