 Lakewood YMCA Men’s Basketball League Rules & Information

 

GAME RULES AND REGULATIONS:

 

AGE RESTRICTIONS AND LEAGUE LEVELS

1.        Each team may not exceed ten (10) players on their roster. Players not added by the fifth regular season game will not be eligible to participate in any Lakewood Y games in that season unless authorized by league director due to extraordinary situations. Players must participate in five regular season games to be eligible for playoff games. Players that participate in the playoffs that do not have enough games for eligibility will forfeit their respective teams from the playoffs. Opposing captains must issue a protest before the end of the contest in order to have a legitimate protest.

 

2.        All players must have signed a waiver before participating in any league games, players from 16 to 18 years of age will have to have a parent sign a release and waiver for such players. No players under 16 years of age as of first day of each season cannot participate.

 

3.        Teams will be placed in each division based on experience of players and skill level. The league commissioner has the right to move teams into divisions based on their record and ability level.

 

4.        Rosters must be turned into the Y and kept on file. Waivers will be available at the scorers table. All team captains are responsible for completing all roster information. Failure to due so will prohibit teams from being eligible for playoff games.

 

TIMING AND SCORING

1.        Each game consists of two- (2) 18 minute running halves.

2.        The clock will run continuously except on the following conditions:

a.        Technical fouls

b.       Injuries

c.        Time outs ( two 45 second per half with no carryovers)

d.       Any dead ball under one (1) minute to play in the first half.

e.        Any dead ball under two (2) minutes to play in the game.

f.         Any dead ball under one (1) minute in the overtime.

g.       The clock will run continuously if a team is leading by more than 20 points at any time in the second half. Only time outs and injuries will stop the clock. Technical fouls will not stop the clock with a 20-point lead in the second half.

 

3.        Overtime periodswill be three (3) minutes in length with only one (1) time out. No timeouts will be carried over into the overtime.

 

4.        Game fees will be $33 per team. All fees must be paid by half-time of the game. Officials are instructed not to start the second half of the game without full game fees. If a team leaves the facility without paying game fees, they are required to pay $66 before the next game that they are scheduled to play. If this fee is not paid at this time, they will have all games removed from the schedule until the fee is paid in full. If both teams forfeit, each team will be required to pay $33 before their next game.

 

5.        Games will start on the designated time on the schedule and teams must have at least three ready and equipped players when the ball is put in play. We will allow a five minute grace period to start all games. After the five minute grace period before each game: Example 7:05, the officials will start the game with a jump ball. If four players are not present at game time, three players may start the game. Teams may now continue to play with less than four players and finish with three or less players with an opportunity to win.

 

6.        If a team does not have three players ready to play at five minutes after the start time, the game will be a forfeit. Teams may pick up a player from another team but at NO TIME will this game count as an official game. If both teams agree to pay their game fees prior to the forfeit, the game will be played with officials as a forfeit. Under no circumstances will teams pick up a player that is not on a roster of a Lakewood Y team. Only Lakewood Y players will play in games that are a forfeit. These players must be on a roster of a current team in the current league session.

 

7.        If your team forfeits a game its obligation is to pay a $66 forfeit fee.Failure to pay your fee will result in the removal of the team from the league. Forfeit fees must be paid in full before their next scheduled games. Contact Paul Conley at pconley@clevelandymca.org . Teams that fail to pay their forfeit within a two week time will have their schedule suspended and will require a $100 to re-enter the league. Any team forfeiting more than two games in a season will be dropped from the schedule and no refund will be forthcoming.

 

8.        Only certified OSHAA sanctioned basketball officials will work these games. If only one official is present, 1 ½ (one and one-half) game fee will be paid to the official. Game fees must be paid before the start of the contest. A Referee has the right to suspend play until the fee is paid. No games will be played without game fees received by half-time.

 

9.        Division winners will receive a $25 credit towards next season’s entry fee.

 

10.     No alcohol or drugs are permitted in or outside of the Lakewood YMCA basketball league. Anyone suspected of or found with these substances will be banned from playing for the Lakewood YMCA league. Staff members and officials are instructed to advise the team captain of such infractions and ask the individual or individuals to leave the facility. This policy is in effect to protect the safety of all participants and spectators.

 

Uniform Rule

 

1.        Each team must supply their own uniforms (t-shirt/tank top/jersey). The Lakewood YMCA can provide jerseys. Please see our website for shirt offerings.

2.        No jean shorts, jeans, slacks, or cut-offs are permitted. Basketball shorts or sweatpants must be worn. Any shirts, shorts, or undergarments that are found to be offensive will not be permitted. Basketball or tennis shoes must be worn on the floor.

3.        No jewelry is permitted. Players must be responsible for their own equipment. Officials nor the Lakewood YMCA nor its officials or directors will not be liable for players injured wearing and jewelry, bracelets, or bands of any type.

 

Officials Rules and Regulations

 

1.        Officials and or scorekeepers do not decide protests. Protests are to be reported to the official at

               Contest. The league director will decide the appropriate action within due time.

 

2.        Fighting or unsportsmanlike conduct and behavior not representative of the values and rules of the Lakewood YMCA are strictly prohibited. These actions can and will result in banishment the any further participation in the men’s basketball league at the Lakewood YMCA. Any player harassing a scorekeeper will be issued technical foul. Ejections from a game resulting from unsportsmanlike conduct can result in a mandatory two game suspensions and possible extended suspension per league review. All ejections carry a minimum of a one game suspension.

 

3.        The basketball rules will be that of the NCAA Men’s Rules in the current season except for timing situations. All new rules for the up coming season will apply. Dunking will be permitted at new Lakewood YMCA Facility.  Hanging on the rim will result in a technical foul penalty and a one game suspension.  Any player to bend or damage equipment in the facility will be fiscally responsible for any damages.  Failure to pay these damages will result in suspension of the play and/or the team from further participation.

 

4.        Bonus one-and-one free throws will occur on the 7th team foul.  Bonus two-shot free throws will occur on the 10th team foul.  A foul on a made shot will be one free-throw and no longer will be taken out of bounds.

 

5.        All games will start with a jump ball and a jump ball for overtime.

 

6.        Technical fouls will be two shots.  The ball will go back to the point of interruption and the team who had possession will remain with the ball.

 

7.        Players who accumulate five (5) or more technical fouls in a single season will be suspended for no less than the season that they are currently playing and up to a one year suspension, or the season that they are currently playing plus four consecutive seasons following the suspension.  Any player who is ejected from a contest by either two technical fouls or one flagrant foul will be suspended for one or two games based on the severity of the infractions.  This player is prohibited from playing in the next league game or games.  Any ejections in the last game of the season will suspend a player for the start of the first two games of the following season.  If a player would play in the successive game, that team would forfeit all games played by this payer until the player has served his suspension.

 

8.        Any player or fan that has a confrontation with an official, scorekeeper, or Lakewood Y staff member before, during, or after the game will be treated with the most serious offense.  Technical fouls can be accessed after the games to be accumulated to those individuals’ technical fouls totals to prevent such actions.  Players that threaten officials, scorekeepers, or Y staff members will be banished from the league.  Verbal threats of violence toward any player, official, or scorekeeper will result in an indefinite suspension.
