Fall 2012 Season

Hello 2012 XC Season Runners,

As some of you may know I have made a very hard decision to resign as head coach. I am sorry that I have not posted this sooner. This has been a very hard decision for me, but it is for the best. Some of you know that last fall after the end of the season my dad got very sick and passed away. He was a huge part of me coaching. It made me realize that family is very important. My sister plays college soccer and because of coaching (which I would NOT trade the experience that I have had for the world) I have not been able to see her play because her season is during XC. It is her Senior season and I feel the need to be there for as many games as possible. I will miss all of the amazing runners and parents that I have had. You are all very dear to me! Thanks for your support and understanding.

Coach Headrick

If you have any question regarding the upcoming season please send them to Duane Pullins at

duane.pullins@centerville.k12.oh.us

Ridiculous Wednesday

Trying to mix it up a little. Tonight is ridiculous Wednesday for your runners! We have asked them to dress ridiculously and then divided by school they will be coming up with cheers. It should be fun...the prize...1st in line for a surprise at the end of practice tomorrow. Your runners have done such a fabulous job this season and we have enjoyed coaching them so a little fun is in order this week! =)

Practice

Since we are really bringing down the mileage and workouts before GWOC in hopes of them peaking practice for this last week will be ending at 5:00 PM. Thanks!

Booster

We have had a cancellation in our last event of the year to cover for boosters. We need one (1) worker for tomorrow night’s boys’ soccer game vs. Wayne. It was originally assigned to XC, but anyone can help. I would prefer to keep football workers off of that game since we have a DH tomorrow night at Schoolhouse and am hoping that either a VB or XC parent or coach will be willing to fill that last spot. I have no way of determining which sport the person who was working it cancelled.

Please help if you can.

Thanks,

Duane

Graeters Update

Parents,

Tomorrows fun run to Graeters is going to be postponed until next Wednesday in light of having such a layed back practice today that included banana relays. So please plan on picking up your runners at the normal time at Forest Field. Thanks!

Raffle Tickets

Parents: At the beginning of the season your runners were given 2 booster raffle tickets. Many have been turned in but we are still missing out 48. It doesn't matter if they are sold or not, but we do need to turn in the unsold tickets or we will be charged. If your runner still has tickets please have them turn them in to me ASAP. Thank you for your help.

Thank you!

Thanks for you quick response to practice being cancelled. Right as the kids arrived at Forest Field there was lightning & thunder. According to protocl we would have had to wait under the shelter for 30 minutes before being able to go out if that was still a possibility so we madee the call to cancel just to be safe. Thanks again!

Announcements

Enjoy the weekend off! =)

Elks vs. Autism

Good afternoon everyone!

As I am sure you have heard, the MS Athletic Department is holding a fundraiser this fall and winter entitled Elks vs. Autism. We are taking the money from 3 of our athletic events (FB Aug. 31, VB Sept. 6, and BSK Jan. 7) along with our t-shirt sales and any other donations we receive and presenting it to a local group who is dedicated to working with children with Autism or who are on the Autism spectrum, ABC Pediatric Therapy.

With the first supply of 77 shirts, which sold out in two days, we fitted our FB (14), VB (3), and FB cheer (3) coaches, our FB cheerleaders (16), all of our 7th and 8th grade VB players (33), and a few others (7). The VB players voted unanimously to buy these shirts and wear them during their pre-game warm-ups once their coaches told them what Autism was and how many kids it impacts. All of our basketball players, boys and girls, will be wearing these as their 2011-2012 shooting shirts for pregame warm-ups as well.

I have a shipment of 450 shirts being delivered to me on Tuesday morning and wanted to give the first opportunity to purchase these shirts to our MS Football players and their families and our MS Cross Country runners and their families. A photo of the shirt is attached to this email and they are selling for $10 each. If you wish to purchase any, please send me an email with the number of shirts and sizes you need by next Friday so I can pull those before we start selling them at school the following week. You can either pay with cash or a check made out to Centerville Athletic Boosters.

Autism impacts 1 out of every 100 kids in this country, including 1 of my own 4-year old twin boys, so this fundraiser is very special to me.

This is something we are doing for the first time this year and something we are going to do every year. If you have any suggestions for future endeavors (I have already received several such as Elks vs. Lung Cancer, Elks vs. Diabetes, Elks vs. ALS, etc.), please do not hesitate to share them with me.

Wishing everyone a very peaceful, restful, and athletically successful Holiday weekend,

Duane

Booster

August 29, 2011
Good Morning,

We are still in need of 6 positions for this Friday night’s Alter rental.

7th grade football has 1 volunteer slot left to fill, but can fill more if two people want to work together.
8th grade football has 2 volunteer slots left to fill
8th grade volleyball has 4 volunteer spots left to fill.
7th/8th Cross Country has 2 slots left to fill.

We are sitting at 49 out of 58 slots filled so far – which is OUTSTANDING! We have 2 slots left for next Saturday night’s CHS home football game against Oak Ridge (Sept. 10) and just 1 slot left for the September 30 varsity FB game vs. Fairmont.

Please help if you are able. I really do not want to see the same parent working two different events as we have way too many parents for that to have to happen.

Thanks everyone,

Duane

From the Athletic Director...

Good Morning Cross Country parents!

As all of you know, our MS Athletic group is now a fully funded member of the Athletic Boosters for our school district. If we ever need anything, all I have to do is ask and we will be given it by this group. However, with that comes some responsibility on our part.

This responsibility is a three tiered approach.

Tier 1 is meeting an ad sales quota of $1,200 for the booster program. Every other sport involved in the boosters leaves this up to their parent representation except for me. I took care of this by myself and after hours of phone calls and meetings, we sold a little over $1,400 worth of ads.

Tier 2 is selling raffle tickets for this year’s booster drawing in March. I have put this responsibility on the student-athletes to sell 2 tickets each and have told all of the coaches and team representatives that $5 of every ticket we sell comes right back to our program.

Tier 3 is volunteering to work at a variety of HS events. As a group, we are responsible for filling 58 volunteer slots this year and 10 of those are to be by parents of cross country athletes. Our one event this year is the home football game on Saturday, September 10 against Oak Ridge out of Ontario, Canada. As of 10:30 this morning, August 22, we have ZERO cross country parents signed up to work this event. It will be very hard for me to take any requests from Coach Headrick to the booster group knowing we did not do our part to fill these slots. Therefore, I am asking you to PLEASE volunteer for one of the ten open slots and help us out so we can meet our Tier 3 requirement. This is the only event cross country parents are required to help at this fall.

Below are the instructions for logging onto the volunteerhub site to sign up to work one of these events. Please do so today so we can be sure tomorrow night’s game is covered.

Thank you in advance and please call if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Duane

Friday Practices

Because of the nature of the workouts (easy and short) on Fridays in preperation for meet days we will begin ending at 5. This is just for Friday practices. Thank you for your flexibility!

Saturday Night Lights Volunteers

The Centerville High School Boys Cross Country team will be holding its home cross country meet at the Centerville High School on Saturday, August 27. The volunteer needs to run a large, high quality event such as this are significant and High School parents fulfill 95% of the volunteer positions throughout the day. This year we are finding ourselves in need of additional volunteers due to the race schedule and the physical location of a number of the volunteer positions (parents would not be able to watch their boys run during the evening hours if staffing these areas). As the middle school runners races will be complete prior to 6pm, we are requesting the assistance of the parents of middle school cross country runners. The following are our requirements:

Parking: direct arriving buses to drop off point; direct cars to parking area; collect $5 parking fee from each car and provide receipt and apparel coupon; 5:30pm – 9:30pm (Approx 6 Volunteers Needed)

Apparel Sales: assisting customers with sizing; handling cash sales of $12 souvenir tee shirts and lighted jewelry; 5:45pm – 9:00pm (Approx 4 volunteers Needed)

Concessions: assisting in concession food sales; Shift 1: 5:30 – 7:45pm (Approx 4 Volunteers Needed) and Shift 2: 7:30pm – 9:30pm (Approx 6 Volunteers Needed)

In addition, we have miscellaneous volunteer needs to relieve parents throughout the day. These positions would be “floaters” or used wherever needed at the time. Approximately 6-8 Volunteers Needed

If you are able to assist us, please contact Julie Steible via email: jsteible@devicormedical.com as soon as possible. If you have a preference of volunteer location, please note that as well.

Thank you for your support! GO ELKS

Team Dinner

Dear Parents,
I have 2 team dinner dates still open for a volunteer. August 26th and September 9th. If you are interested in volunteering to host one of these dinners please send me an e-mail: liz.headrick@centerville.k12.oh.us.

Calendar

So sorry for the miscommunication that there was regarding the location of todays practice. The handout was wrong and the website calendar was right. I have updated the handout.

Reminder!

Parents just a reminder that practices on Wednesdays are held at Forest Field!

Jerseys

Parents don't forget that it is $5 for a jersey. This is the price for the ones that I have leftover from last year. If we run out and we have to order one it will be either $10 or $15. You will want to get these ASAP as pictures are next Saturday. If you have an 8th grade runner that already has a jersey you don't need to worry about buying a new one as long as the previous one fits.

Announcement

I just uploaded the meet schedule for this season. You can access it under handouts.

Thank you for coming out to the meeting tonight! We are looking forward to this season!
