Protecting Against Abuse in Youth Sports training

State of Ohio Legislations Senate Bill 534 - Protecting Against Abuse in Youth Sports

Concussion Training Mandated by State Law for ALL COACHES AND UMPIRES

Ohio law mandates that all coaches, assistant coaches, and referees to obtain specialized training in recognizing the symptoms of concussions and head injuries every three years. 

Bethel Diamond Sports, Inc. requires every baseball and softball coach, assistant coach, and umpire to successfuly complete the free online concussion training prior the first game.  The training will take less than 30 minutes and will require that you print a certificate of completion at the conclusion of the video.

It features interviews with leading experts, dynamic graphics and interactive exercises, and compelling storytelling to help you recognize a concussion and know how to respond if you think that your athlete might have a concussion.

Once you complete the training and quiz, please email certificate to betheldiamondsports@gmail.com or print out the certificate, and provide a copy to BDS President, Becca Welch.


Background Checks

All coaches must provide a background check every 3 years.  There is no requirement for where you obtain the background check.  You may submit a copy of the background check that was ran for your work, CCW permit, etc. 

Bethel Diamond Sports provides the services of True-Hire.com as an affordable option for your background check.  The applicant fills out the online form and submits a credit card payment of $14.99.  Applicants are responsible for paying the fee and must fill out the payment information under "Donate the cost of your background check."  The results are provided to Bethel Diamond Sports and kept confidential.  You will receive an email with the results forwarded from Bethel Diamond Sports.


Equipment Exchange

If you have gently used baseball and softball equipment that your child or team has outgrown, please consider donating it to the Bethel Diamond Sports Equipment Exchange.  Our goal is to provide gloves, bats, helmets, and cleats for any child or coach that needs it.  If you have equipment to donate, or are in need of equipment, please contact your coach or any Board Member of Bethel Diamond Sports.


 

Lindsay’s Law: Sudden Cardiac Arrest in Youth Athletes

Lindsay’s Law

Lindsay’s Law, Ohio Revised Code 3313.53103707.58 and 3707.59 went into effect in 2017.

In accordance with this law, the Ohio Department of Health, the Ohio Department of Education, the Ohio High School Athletic Association, the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Cardiology and other stakeholders jointly developed guidelines and other relevant materials to inform and educate students and youth athletes participating in or desiring to participate in an athletic activity, their parents, and their coaches about the nature and warning signs of sudden cardiac arrest.
