Burn Player invited to attend National Team training Camp

Caroline Coyer, a member of the U16G Chantilly Burn has been invited to attend the USYS National team training Camp in California in Mid-August. Caroline had a superb tournament in both the USYS Regional and National Championships for the Burn. After the tournament was complete, she was invited to attend the National Team training camp by coach Mike Dickey.  Coach Jorden said "Caroline is the perfect example of a player who always gives 110% on the field.  Although we didn't get to the National Championship game after 2 draws, she came out against the St. Louis team and played her best game of the tournament, and the National team coach happened to be there.  I think this will be a great experience for her and I wouldn't be surprised if she gets called in again."  Caroline has played for the Burn since U9 in helping Chantilly win three (3) consecutive State Cup Championships and the 2009 Region I Championship. Serving as a leader by selection as one of the team captain's for the Burn, Chantilly is very proud of this achievement and wish Caroline the best of luck at camp and in her future endeavors.

Local Players join U.S. U-15 girls training camp

The U.S. U-15 Girls’ National Team will come together for a training camp from Aug. 16-23 at The Home Depot in Carson, Calif. as head coach Mike Dickey will train 24 players. Twenty-one of the players were born in 1994, with one in 1993 and two in 1995. The U.S. U-15s, which are holding their third training camp of the year, will play local youth clubs during the week. The players will also get to attend the inaugural WPS Championship Game that will be held at The HDC on Aug. 22. The players in this camp are all age-eligible for the 2010 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Trinidad & Tobago, which has an age cut-off of players born on or after Jan. 1, 1993. One player in this camp – 5-foot-8 midfielder Morgan Andrews – also participated in the recently completed U.S. U-14 I.D. Camp in Pomona, Calif.

Chantilly Burn recognized by FFX Board of Supervisors at August 3rd meeting

At the August 3rd, 2009 Board of Supervisor meeting at the Fairfax County Government Center, Chantilly Burn was recognized with other age groups for winning the 2008 State Cup Championship.  Although participating in a tournament in San Diego and unable to attend, the Burn truly appreciates the honor of being invited to stand before the Board of Supervisors.  Congrats to all Virginia State Cup winners.

Chantilly returns from USYS National Championships after good showing

They arrived in Lancaster, MA and settled in and begun the process of preparing for the competition against the three (3) Regional Champions as well as the National League Champion & runner up.  Monday & Tuesday, they attended the required lunch and dinner banquets getting the oppurtunity to hold the National championship trophy in the hope of adding it to their Region one hardware shelf.

Chantilly Burn vs FC Pennysvania Strikers (1-1)

The first game on Wednesday, Chantilly faced an old foe in FC Pennysvania Strikers bright and early.  Chantilly struck first on a deflection off the goalie by Olivia to go up by one into the half.  After the break, FC Penn hit a bullet into the back of the net off a corner kick loose on the equalizer.  Both teams fought back and forth until regualation to end in a tie.

Chantilly Burn vs SO Cal Blues (0-0)

In game two against the SO Cal Blues, both teams were very physical and it was starting to turn into a brawl.  At mid-point of the half the game begin to settle in with Chantilly pressing and SO Cal counter-attacking with near hits for both teams.  The last ten minutes had Chantilly with multiple shots just missing but the game ended in a draw.

Chantilly Burn vs Scott Gallagher (MO) (1-1)

The third game time was pushed forward a few hours due to the rain storm of the previous night.  It also offered both teams the oppurtunity to play on the beautiful turf fields at the park.  As in the first game, Chantilly hit pay dirt with a "bend it like Beckham" corner kick by Melissa mid-way through the first half.  Chantilly maintained that score until the break.  During the second half, Scott Gallagher (MO) found a loose ball in front of the goal for the equalizer.  Multiple chances presented themselves the rest of the way but no goals were added.

The experience of playing at such a high level tournament against the best youth soccer teams in the country was well worth the time put in during practice throughout the spring.  We enjoyed representing Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) as the U15G Region 1 Champion as well as continuing to prove that the Washington Area Girls Soccer (WAGS) League is one of the most competitive in the country.  The ladies didn't come away with the hardware but they left it on the field and competed well.  Congrats to all the other teams in reaching the pininacle of youth soccer!

Coach Jorden after the tournament:  "Its been one hell of a long Spring and Summer for us, and a great one at that.  I am so proud of this team and our accomplishments.  The experience we've gained winning Region One and playing at the National Championship will be something our players take with them for the rest of their lives!"

Chantilly Burn captures the 2009 US Youth Soccer Region 1 Championship

With Virginia High School soccer being played in spring season, the Chantilly Burn had a lot of ground to make up in order to prepare and improve on last years Region 1 Championship finalist result!  They had 5 ½ weeks to get into championship form and prepare for the trip.  Head Coach Mike Jorden & Asst. Coach Lee Jenkins started to see the old Burn style of soccer leading up to Regions at practice; both stating that “it’s great to have them back on the field together.”  High School season is long and it can take a lot out of the kids; sometimes leading to a few injuries here and there.  Despite the obstacles, the Burn closed out the final two weeks of training with some tough friendlies (Thanks Cardinals, Dragons, Heat & Elite for helping us prepare) and intense practices.

KK:  "While making it to the Region 1 Tournament for the third time was a big accomplishment in itself, I knew everyone wanted more.  It still doesn't seem real that we won, but it just shows how the Burn can win any match if we play our game.  I am proud of the fact that we did not allow any goals the entire tournament."

After the opening ceremonies on Thursday at Marshall University in Huntington, WV, the girls were ready to play and anxious to see how they matched up with the best teams in Region 1.

Lauren:  "Winning the Region 1 championship is something many soccer players dream of doing.  The whole  team worked really hard to win and to come out on top made it even better.  We came so close last year but all the dedication and hard work into it really paid off.

Chantilly Burn wins 4-0 (Odyssey Sport 97 Odyssey (ME))

The ladies cruised a little when Tabo scored early going to the break 1-0.  In the second half the Burn had multiple shots on goal and started to wear down Odyssey in route to a 4-0 victory.

Madyson:  "Winning Regionals gave me a great feeling and was a little overwhelming.  It was very exciting because my teammates worked really hard to get there.  We were able to push ourselves harder and get the gold medal.  I'm proud to be a Burn player."

Chantilly defeats Beadling United (PAW) 1-0

“Wild and Wonderful” West Virginia turned into “Wet and Foggy” during Saturday’s game.  After a Burn player got sent off in the 5th minute for a questionable call, the team played down for the next 75 minutes.  They fought hard and as the game moved into the 2nd half, the Burn got stronger, taking the game to PA West.  With 15 minutes to play, Caroline picked up a lose ball and drove a 30 yard bomb into the net.  The team never stopped fighting, keeping possession and moved the ball around brilliantly while still being down a man until the end.

Coach Jorden:  "I told the team afterwards that this game will be a turning point for us.  We came together in this match, fighting for each other like true champions and it was really inspiring.  What a feat!"

Kelsey:  I’m so excited to be Regional Champs. We’ve worked extremely hard to reach this goal and I can’t wait to go to Nationals.

Burn beats Wall Wombats (NJ) 3-0

With Wall needing a multiple goal win and Chantilly needing a win or tie to advance, the Burn picked up their soccer a bit.  Caroline headed a corner kick ball in the first half.  After the break, Melissa got behind the Wall defenders and scored while Madyson beat a defender for a rebounded shot to go up 3-0 and advance to the Semi-finals against the Region 1 league Champions PDA Charge.

Olivia:  "Our team worked so hard to prepare for regionals this year, and it feels amazing to know that it all paid off and that we are finally Region 1 Champions.  I feel proud to be on the Burn as we represent Virginia and Region 1 in the National Championship."

Chantilly comes out on top 1-0 over PDA (Region 1 league Champion)

In temperatures reaching 89 degrees and on a turf field, Wild and Wonderful WV came back with a bang!  Due to the previous rain showers, game times and fields were rescheduled and Chantilly traveled to Charleston, WV to play PDA.  In the 15th minute, Melissa recieved a cross and put it by the keeper for a goal; it turned out to be the game winner as Chantilly defended well and secured the win to advance to the Championship for the second year.

Sam:  "Before we even kicked off in our first game against Maine, I had this feeling the we were going to go all the way this year.  It still hasn't sunk in that we won!  I'm so proud of every single Burn player and excited to represent Region 1 and Virginia at Nationals!

Burn takes championship rematch against FC Stars of Massachusetts (MA)

In the much anticipated rematch from last years 2-1 double overtime final; Chantilly Burn came out looking good and at about mid-way in the first half, Mallory placed a great direct kick over the goalies head.  Both teams continued to battle with the FC Stars gaining some nice shots on the Burn.  In the 2nd half, Chantilly scored on a corner kick scored after Kat headed toward the goal only to be headed again by Caroline into the net burn goal. Chantilly defender's KK, Sam, Kat, Mallory & Lauren along with stellar play from goalies Alex and Erin shut down attackers throughout the Tournament in excellent fashion with zero (0) goals against.

Melissa:  "Its a amazing feeling.  Winning Region 1 made me feel like I helped accomplish one of our major goals this team had when I joined.  This has made me feel like I have grown as a player and that the Chantilly Burn has grown as a team together."

Chantilly's Region 1 Championship victory rewards them the oppurtunity to play in Lancaster, MA for the 2009 USYS National Championship (July 20-26, 2009).

Each summer the United States Youth Soccer Association (US Youth Soccer) crowns a boys and girls national Champion in each of its seven age divisions (U14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19).  The finals are a culmination of a year-long series of competitions at the state and regional levels.  The US Youth Soccer National Championship Series provides approximately 185,000 players on 10,000 teams from US Youth Soccer's 55 State Associations the opportunity to showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the nation, while emphasizing teamwork, discipline and fair play.

The US Youth Soccer National Championships serves as the crown jewel of competitive youth soccer as the nation's top 56 youth soccer teams, in the Under-14 through Under-19 Boys and Girls brackets, compete for the US Youth Soccer National Championship title.

A form of the US Youth Soccer National Championships were first held in 1935 and, after adding age groups throughout the years, reached the present formate in 2001.

Burn battles in tough (2OT) Championship game at Regionals to finish as Finalist!

The ladies of Chantilly arrived in Maine to participate in the Region I tournament with the goal of winning the championship but also to represent our club (Chantilly Soccer Club), league (WAGS), State organization (VYSA) and most important; each other.  Following the opening ceromonies Thursday evening, they took the field against Maryland (Baltimore Bays) on Friday and came away with a (2-0) result.  On Saturday, the Burn and New Jersey (Mt. Laurel Power) played to a (0-0) tie.  Needing a win on Sunday to advance, the Burn defeated West Virginia (Lady Stingers) (6-0) moving into the Semi-finals.  Playing determined soccer early Monday morning, Chantilly beat Eastern New York (QuickStrike FC Power) (3-0) to gain entry into the finals against Massachusetts (FC Stars).  Having played the Stars before, Chantilly expected it to be a great game; and a battle it was!  Both teams scored late in the first half going to the break equal.  The second half went back and forth as each team had opportunities but could not finish.  Late in the first overtime, FC Mass placed a good ball into the net to go up.  Chantilly pushed back hard in the second overtime but were unable to tie the game as it ended (2-1 (2OT)).  Chantilly would like to thank the organizers of the US Youth Soccer (Region I) tournament for putting on a top-notch event as well as the State of Maine.  Also, a special thank you to both the WAGS and VYSA representatives for supporting us during the matches.  Congrats FC Mass on your victory; well done!

Coach Jorden after the match:  "I am very proud of our team.  We got through an extremely tough group and didn't give up a goal, which is difficult at this level.  In the final we showed a lot of character and were unlucky when our shot hit the cross bar late in the match.   In the overtime period I felt we lost some focus and lacked energy.  Mass is a very good team and we wish them the best at Nationals.  In the big picture the Burn will build on this experience and only get better."

Burn repeat as 2007-08 U14G "Virginia State Cup Champions"

Chantilly returned to Virginia Beach, VA to participate in the 2007-08 Virginia State Cup  Semi-Finals.  Facing the Strikers on Saturday, the competition was as tough as expected.  Chantilly placed a goal into the net early for the lead.  In the second half, the Strikers scored to tie the match and force overtime.  After two overtimes, the game came down to PK’s with the Burn winning and advancing to the Championship game once again.  In the Championship game, the Burn was looking at a familiar foe in the BRYC Santos, Chantilly scored in the first half to go up 1-0 before the break.  During the second half, the Santos scored to tie the game.  Both teams pressed on however; regulation ended tied at 1-1.  In the second overtime period, Chantilly hit the net to secure the win and back-to-back State Cup Championships.  The Burn would like to thank the Virginia Youth Soccer Association personnel for organizing and putting on a top-notch tournament.  We look forward to representing the Commonwealth of Virginia in Maine next month.

Coach Jorden after the match:  "I am very happy for our players.  Going back to Maine was a team goal, and playing back to back 90 minute overtime matches and getting results really showed our depth, character and resilience.  Both Mclean and Braddock Road are very good, well coached teams, and they made it tough.  This shows how good the Washington Area Girls Soccer League (WAGS) really is.  High pressure matches like these are a great experience for our kids."

Chantilly returns to the "Virginia State Cup" Semi-finals in Virginia Beach, VA slated for May 17th,

Mike Jorden takes over helm of the Chantilly Burn

The Chantilly Burn is pleased to announce that Mike Jorden has assumed the position as Head Coach of the Burn.  To say that Mike has been successful at every level he has coached, would be a understatement.  Mike is anxious to continue as the team’s leader with his record of continued success in developing soccer skills, teaching a fun game and competing at the top level.

Mike Jorden, the Burn’s new Head Coach, will inherit a group of ladies that he is very familiar with.  Mike has been with Chantilly for a few seasons already as Assistant Coach/Trainer, leading them to championships in Arlington, Columbia, Cardinal Cup and CASL tournaments in 2006.  The team under his guidance, followed up in 2007 with OBGC Cup and WAGS tournament finalist, August Cup and CASL tournament championships and as State Cup Champions!  Before becoming Chantilly’s Trainer in 2006, Mike was the SYA Elite’s assistant coach.  Prior to the Elite’s move to SYA, Coach Jorden was the Sterling Elite’s Head Coach, during his tenure, they were three-time State Cup Champions from 2002-2004 and Region 1 Champions in 2003.  Coach Jorden's MPS Freedom Elite finished the fall 2007 season as State Cup champs again.  Coach Jorden is a USSF Nationally licensed Coach, former VYSA Head ODP Coach (North) and former DC United Staff Coach.

Chantilly repeat champions at the Premier Elite "2007 CASL Shootout" tournament

Capping off a very successful 2007 fall campaign.....where the Burn competed in four tournaments; reaching the finals in all.  Two championships and two finalist results!  Returning to CASL in the U14G top Elite Gold bracket, Chantilly faced a difficult task in bracket play.  In game one, they defeated their I-95 corridor rival, the Baltimore Bays 93 (1-0).  The afternoon game they faced ASA Xtreme (GA) in a battle.  Chantilly needed a great late equalizer goal to get the tie (1-1) heading into day two.  Sunday morning the Burn lineup up in a rematch of Region I pool-play against the FC Stars of Mass.  During this intense match....Chantilly prevailed (1-0) advancing to the finals.  In the other bracket, the CASL Spartan Elite advanced to the finals.  The game being tied at the break, Chantilly came out the second half pushing forward and punched one in early.  The Spartan Elite fought hard but the Burn stayed calm and won the championship (1-0) in becoming The "2007 CASL Shootout" Champions.  Congrats ladies!

VYSA (Northern District) ODP tryouts approaching soon

The US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program was formed in 1977 to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team will be selected for international competition; to provide high-level training to benefit and enhance the development of players at all levels; and, through the use of carefully selected and licensed coaches, develop a mechanism for the exchange of ideas and curriculum to improve all levels of coaching.

The Virginia ODP is divided into four districts – Central, Northern, Southeastern and Western.  Each district conducts open tryouts each summer for the 5 participating birth years of both genders for the next seasonal year.  For the upcoming seasonal year, the 2007-2008 seasonal year, tryouts will be conducted for the 95, 94, 93, 92, 91 birth years.  The oldest age group this year, the 90 birth year, is still a part of the ODP. They will  participate in district tryouts and training with the 1991 age group.  It will then be determined which players will be invited to attend the Region I Camp in July 2008.

Tryouts for the upcoming ODP District Training Programs will be held on the last weekend in July and the first weekend in August.  Schedules for each district have been set.  If you plan to participate in ODP next seasonal year, please follow the schedule posted on the next page for each district, gender and age group.

Chantilly takes WAGS D1 spring 2007 league play

Previous years could have been described as successful due to the team’s success on the pitch in the win/lose column however, the coaches decided to challenge them more this season mentally.  They asked them to work harder, push their peers to get stronger and strive to become not just players; but teammates all while improving physically.  With those goals in sight, the Burn ended spring soccer alone atop the division with its second consecutive championship in one of the regions toughest leagues (WAGS).  League play is always hard when competing against your travel soccer neighbors and rivals on a weekly basis.  We look forward to next season as the U14G Chantilly Burn!!!

Chantilly captures 2007 U13G Virginia State Championship

The Burn faced a familiar foe in the State Cup finals.  As would be expected, both teams were anxious, prepared and ready.  Chantilly put two goals in the net during the first half; a floater over the goalies head taken by a charging defender and a rebound off a shot allowing Chantilly to take a 2-0 lead to break.  Early in the second half, the Santos popped a nice direct kick over the goalies head to come within one of an equalizer.  The remainder of the second half became a back and forth challenge with both teams spending time on the others half.  The Burn secured the trophy and championship with a 2-1 victory.  We extend our thanks and appreciation to  the VYSA management team for running a superb tournament and to our tournament opponents.
