Happy Thanksgiving BLUE
November 18, 2007
While the baseball season has now been completed, we can all reflect on our families and all that we have. Thanksgiving is a very special holiday as it has no religious boundries and is a holiday that we all can share. Look around and make a list of all that you are thankful for, health, loving parents, sisters, brothers, friends and family. Did you ever long for a good meal or need medicine to cure a cold? My guess is that these wants have never been an issue for any Bulldog player. But please know that there are children who do in fact need these very basic things. My hope and wish is that none of you ever want for any of these things and that you find it in your hearts to always feel for those that are less fortunate then you. The biggest gift in life is the one that you give not the one that you receive.
Be safe and enjoy this Thanksgiving Holiday like no other. We all have so very much to be thankful for!
God Bless Us All!

Blackhawks Fowl Out
October 17, 2008
The NJ Blackhawks cancelled our game for the third time this fall season which resulted in a 7-0 forfeit win for BLUE. Sure makes one wonder why a team would join a League in the first place?

October 29, 2007
BLUE defeated Teel's Ravens on a cool night in North Haledon by a score of 3-2. The classy Ravens played about as good a game as anyone in 45 degree weather on a true fall evening under the lights. This win for Blue marks the third trip to a Cerbo Championship in 2007 which includes a 35 game winning streak.. Next up is the # 2 seed which BLUE defeated earlier in the season.
Evan Stern pitched a complete game striking out 13 batters and the big hits came from Jesse Roth with an RBI single and Ryan McDonough with a big 2 run single which proved to be the game winner!
Coach Joba Chamberlain

Good Knight
October 21, 2007
In the first round of the Cerbo New 13's Playoffs, BLUE had to go 11 innings to beat the # 8 seed, North Caldwell Knights who played a terrific game of baseball. Jesse Roth started on the mound for BLUE and threw 3 shutout innings with support from catcher Ryan McDonough who gunned down 3 base runners including two in the first inning. Mike Lembo then pitched the next four innings retiring 9 straight before walking the lead off hitter in the 7th. The next two hitters reached base on hits to load the bases. With the infield in, the next batter hit the ball to third baseman Carlos Velez who threw home for the force. The # 4 batter flew to centerfield, the ball was dropped, a run scored and BLUE got the second out of the inning on a force play at second. But the # 5 hitter singled to tie the score at 2 apiece. Carlos pitched a scoreless 8th and 9th getting 2 outs from North Caldwell batting two hitters out of order. Evan Stern came in to pitch the final two innings for BLUE. BLUE played small ball in the bottom of the 11th after receiving a lead off walk to Carlos. Stern bunted for a hit, was followed by a Ryan McDonough bunt single to load the bases. Jesse Roth executed a perfect suicide squeeze bunt and Carlos came across the plate with the game winning run! BLUE Holds Off Rangers in 5-4 Win
September 23, 2012
BLUE held on to win a 5-4 game played at Indian Hills High School in Oakland on a picture perfect day. The contest started at 4PM with Steven Bujtas throwing 3 strong innings allowing only one hit and making 3 plays from the mound including snaring a line drive hit back to the box and throwing over to Austin Coiro on first to complete a double play. In the first inning, Ryan McDonough threw out a would be base stealer (the first of two on the day for Ryan). Mike Lembo pitched the next two innings striking out 5 hitters including the side in the 5th. Mike was the victim of 2 infield errors after allowing a walk which put 2 unearned runs on the board for the Rangers. Jesse Roth threw the final two frames getting 2 ground ball outs to second baseman Harry Uhrig to start the 6th, then surrender a base hit but the runner was then gunned down by Ryan McDonough. The 7th started out with a ground ball out to third but the young Oradell native lost the strike zone walking the bases loaded before giving up a single to left after striking out the next hitter. The score was now 5-3 with bases loaded and 2 outs. Roth induced the next hitter to send a slow roller up the first base side in the high grass the ball coming to a dead stop 40 feet away from Coiro, who came in to retrieve the ball, then turn to find both Uhrig and Roth by the first base bag. A low throw which Uhrig could not handle allowed the 4th run to score and Bujtas who received the ball on a throw out attempt at second fired home to nail the runner and end the game.

BLUE Wins Cerbo Summer Championship
July 26, 2007
The pitching was strong from both teams last night but Evan Stern (4 innings, 5 K's, 3 BB's and 1 Hit) and Rob Kaminsky (3 innings, 7 K's, 1 BB's) combined on a 1 hitter to beat the X-Factors by a score of 3-1 and give BLUE the 12U Cerbo Summer League Championship! The win gave BLUE a 2007 Cerbo record of 22-0 (Spring and Summer) including 2 Championships.
Evan struggled in the first inning walking the first two batters and a couple of throwing errors put the X-Factors on the board. In the bottom of the first inning with two out, Austin Coiro fell behind in the count 0-2, but hung tough working the count full and hitting a 3-2 pitch to straight away centerfield for a Home Run tying the score. BLUE did not score the go ahead run until the 4th inning, Stern lead off with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball and then scored on a Rob Shriak opposite field double to left. BLUE added an insurance run in the 6th inning as Kaminsky lead off the inning with a single, Coiro drew a walk and Mike Lembo delivered a two out "clutch" single to right to score Kaminsky.
A great game to watch and to end the summer Cerbo season!

Silver Slugger awards out to Evan Stern, Austin Coiro, Vinny Spoleti and Johnny Avallone. Matt Turner made a great diving play at 3B and Johnny Avallone pulled down a rocket in center to support the effort. The next game is Friday Night in Garfield.
BLUE Advances to Championship Game
July 24, 2007
BLUE beat the Montclair Bulldogs by a score of 8-2 to advance to the Cerbo 12U Summer League Championship. Steven Butjas (4 innings) and Carlos Velez (3 innings) provided the pitching allowing 2 unearned runs in the early frames. BLUE defense was not "gold glove" but some timely hitting and a few Montclair walks with the bases loaded provided the run support in this match-up. Rob Kaminsky tied the game at 1 with a first inning home run, Evan Stern (3 for 3) hit a 275 foot bomb with a runner on and Rob Shriak (3 for 3) and Ben Vieteze (2B to left center) had key hits for BLUE.
A special thank you goes out to Coach Bob Pavone for preparing the field for this game a night after heavy rainfall. The field by any standard was "perfect". Thanks Coach!
Cerbo Summer Playoff Picture
July 21, 2007
BLUE finished the "short summer" season at 8-0 and was awarded the # 1 seed in the Playoffs. At press time, the # 2 seed was defeated by the # 4 seed THE X-Factors. During the season the following players contributed to the effort and are playoff ready;
Austin Coiro, Evan Stern, Ryan McDonough, Rob Kaminsky, Carlos Velez, Tyler Pavone, Harry Uhrig, Ben Vietze, Keith Ring, Billy Reimer, Mike Lembo, Rob Shriak, Nick Grasso and Steven Butjas.

Summer Team Update
July 11, 2007
Last night the setting was Major League as BLUE went to Montclair State University to tangle with the Montclair Bulldogs who just returned from Cooperstown Dreams Park finishing ahead of 40 teams. BLUE played its brand of baseball with solid pitching, defense and hitting on their way to a 8-2 victory. Evan Stern started but throw alot of pitches over the first three innings on full counts but did not allow a run to score. The BLUE defense assisted with that task! Steven Butjas pitched the next three innings yielding a 2 run homer on a pitchers pitch but we tipped our caps to the Montclair batter who went down to get the low and away pitch and jack it over the wall! Mike Lembo threw the 7th and was assisted by a fine diving catch in centerfield by Evan!
Silver Slugger Awards go out to Mike Lembo (HR), Evan Stern (HR), Rob Shriak, Nick Grasso and Austin Coiro who almost hit the ball through the fence in left.
Ryan McDonough was solid behind the plate, Carlos Velez 3B, Harry Uhrig 2B and Ben Vietze 2B/SS all returned to the lineup from the Ripken Experience. Tyler Pavone provided the usual spark in RF!
With this victory, BLUE raised its summer record to 7-0 and 29-1 for the season.

BLUE Walks Into Championship
June 16, 2007
This was not your typical BLUE victory. All season long the cornerstone of this ballclub was pitching and defense (not to mention their hard hitting). But tonight BLUE pitchers walked a team record 13 hitters and made 4 errors in one inning, also a team record. But, now the good news, Blue did scatter 6 hits over 9 innings and never surrendered more than 3 runs in an inning. But as the old saying goes, "when the going gets tough, the tough get going".
After 7 and 1/2 innings of play BLUE found themselves on the short side of a 8-5 ball game. After a lead off triple by Rob Kaminsky and a good at bat by Stephen Cuccio, BLUE was in business, but the next two hitters failed to advance the runners, with a strike out and ground out. Now with two outs, Austin Coiro steps to the plate. With the count even at 2 and 2 Austin rips a rope to right center to bring the score to within one at 8-7. Ryan McDonough sets down the side one, two, three in the top of the ninth and BLUE needs to get to work. After two ground outs, Billy Reimer is BLUE's last hope. Billy works the count to 3-0 and is taking all the way! Strike one comes in as expected. The next pitch, strike two and Blue's dugout moans as the pitch was on his shoes. Billy is hanging tough and swings and taps the ball foul! The next pitch is hit hard to the right of the shortstop, the ball comes up and skips past the sure handed Roth. BLUE has life and the play is scored a hit! This brings BLUE to the top of the batting order and Jackson's very own Matt Thaiss. Thaiss was 0 for 3 at this time after scoring in the first after a walk on a Rob Kaminsky double. Matt works the count to 2 and 1 and with the speedy Reimer in motion on the pitch Thaiss rips a double to right center scoring Reimer to tie the game at 8-8!! The bench is going wild and the team is fired up after Thaiss takes third on the errant relay throw into the infield. Now, with the winning run on third and two outs our next two hitters are intentionally walked. As we all know, the Cerbo League plays Major League Rules as outlined on page 4 item 2 of the "rule book" distributed to all Cerbo League coaches! Therefore major league rules require the pitcher to throw 4 balls and complete an intentional walk. So now, the opposing pitcher has loaded the bases after throwing 9 balls in a row (Cuccio swung at one of the intentional pitches) and is left no margin for error. A hit batsman, a walk, a wild pitch which may bounce away from the back stop could end the game and give BLUE the victory. But Noah Rosenberg steps into the batters box and rips the first pitch to right field and Thaiss scores the winning run! GAME OVER! This team finishes the 2007 Spring season at 22-1 with Championship medals and trophies from both the 2007 NJPTB Memorial Day Tournament and the Cerbo 12U Saturday Spring League. The players and parents were first class All Stars and we all will cherish these great days of youth baseball.
Bulldogs Win Semi-Final
June 9, 2007
On a beautiful night for baseball and with the fireworks blazing over the trees along the outfield fence Jersey Bulldogs BLUE were busy with fireworks of their own. BLUE while outscoring the Bergen Bombers by a score of 16-2 in a 9 inning game pounded out 14 hits which when coupled with 7 Bombers errors gave BLUE the 14 run margin. The Bombers scored first in the top of the first and did not score again after the third inning. Evan Stern (4 innings,7 K's 2 runs)Austin Coiro (4 innings,6 K's) and Rob Kaminsky (1 inning, 3 K's)kept the normally potent bats of the Bombers silenced spreading 4 hits over 9 frames. Key hits for BLUE included second inning extra base hits by Evan Stern and Johnny "Action" Avallone who also tied the score in the first with a "steal" of home on a passed ball. The big inning for BLUE was the 6th which started with a Rob Kaminsky single which was followed by hits from Stephen Cuccio, Austin Coiro, and Jeff Oster after Noah Rosenberg reached base on an error and Vinny Spoleti reached base on his league leading 17th HBP (ouch). It was Jeff's single to left which skipped past the Bomber LF'er and cleared the bases, allowing BLUE to score 6 runs in the frame. On the defensive side of the "ledger" Mike Lembo ran down 3 balls hit his way in centerfield, Billy Reimer made a really nice catch in left and Stephen Cuccio and Ryan McDonough were both solid behind the plate.
PERFECTO
June 5, 2007
BLUE finished the regular season with a 10-0 record and was awarded the top seed in the 12U Cerbo Spring Saturday League Playoffs. On Saturday June 9, 2007 BLUE will square off against the Bergen Bombers, a team that played BLUE tough in the early part of the season. The Bulldogs BLUE compiled an overall spring record of 20 wins and 1 loss from tournament play, league play and non-league play. The lone loss was a 6-3 loss to the South Brunswick Vikings in tournament play. We wish all the Cerbo playoff teams good luck! Following the conclusion of the spring season, we will annouce summer plans and roster and a summary of where our players will be competing including news about the BLUE August 2007 Cooperstown trip!

BLUE Sinks Mariners
May 19, 2007
The weather had been rainy all day and the game started in a very light mist. The Bulldogs fell behind early in the game 4-2 after four innings a result of 3 free passes and 3 infield errors which accounted for 4 unearned Mariner runs. But it was now time for the offense to get to work and after five frames the score was 9-4 BLUE. The game ended after 8 full innings of play with a final score of 18-6 and the Bulldogs set their Cerbo League Spring record at 9-0.
Siver Slugger awards go out to the entire team as every player had at least one hit (Bulldogs had over 18 hits). However, Noah Rosenberg, Rob Kaminsky, Stephen Cuccio, Vinny Spoletti, Billy Reimer, Nick Conlon all had mutiple hits. The Bulldogs once again hit back to back home runs this time Mike Lembo teamed up with Stephen Cuccio.
The pithing was provide by Austin Coiro, Ryan McDonough and Jeff Oster who all turned in a solid performance.
First year rookie phenoms Johnny Avallone and Tyler Pavone turned in solid performances in support of the winning effort.
Next weekend BLUE will be looking to "Three-Peat" at the 2007 NJTB Hackensack Memorial Day Tournament.
DOUBLE X
May 12, 2007
We had an eye on this date on our Cerbo calendar! Two big games with the 10-0 X-Factors, who after last night became the 10-2 X-Factors! As we have told each other all season long, we can pitch with anyone, and last night we sent Big Country, Stephen Cuccio to the hill and pitch he did, as we took game one 11-0 as the X-Factors sent up the white flag after four frames! Mike Lembo continued his hot hitting with a big triple, sending two Bulldogs across the plate!
Game 2 started where we left off scoring 8 runs in the first inning capped by Evan Stern hitting a "bomb" for his first grand slam home run.
Evan and Rob Kaminsky combined to pitch BLUE to a 10-3 win.
So after 11 innings of baseball BLUE scored 21 runs and gave up only 3 runs enroute to a guaranteed first place finish in the Cerbo Saturday Division. Blue has already won all its games against contenders, X-Factors, Bombers and Molinelli Bulldogs beating each team head to head for four of of its' 8 victories.
Up next, the New Jersey Mariners of Lodi,a well managed talented team!
Dog Day!!
May 5, 2007
It was a busy day for BLUE, players had games in their local towns in the morning and early afternoon and then put on their Bulldog Blues. They came to LaTrenta wearing their hitting shoes and hit they did! They slugged their way to a 18-0 win over the first year South Bergen Mets. Ryan McDonough and Jeff Oster pitched a combined shut-out. In addition, BLUE also picked up some Cerbo points as a result of a forfeiture as the NYC All Stars departed the Cerbo League.
Blue then packed up 9 players and drove over to Oakland to play a non-league game against the NJABC Oakland Braves. The hitting contined with a 8-5 win over the Braves, this one capped by "back to back" home runs in the 5th inning by Mike Lembo and Austin Coiro.
Silver Slugger Awards go out to Rob Kaminsky, Stephen Cuccio, Mike Lembo, Austin Coiro, Vinny Spoleti and Ryan McDonough.
BLUE Dawgs Win the Dogfight
April 28, 2007
Jersey Bulldogs BLUE defeated its' "cross town rivals" by a score of 9-3. Casey Stengel once said that you need three things to win a baseball game, "pitching, pitching and more pitching". Both teams received solid pitching last night but BLUE was able to take advantage of a few defensive errors and a four run 9th inning to "out dual" their opponents.
Additional game highlights included a 1-5-3 double play started by Evan Stern on a great stop hit back to the box (Evan pitched 4 strong innings striking out 6). Stephen Cuccio pitched 4 strong innings striking out 6. Rob Kaminsky hit a "moon shot" for a solo homer in the late innings and a 2 run single off the glove of the second baseman by catcher Nick Conlon capped a 4 run 9th inning. Austin Coiro pitched a 1-2-3 9th striking out 1 and this one was in the books.
New York New York
April 21, 2007
Start spreading the news, Big BLUE swept a doubleheader vs. the NYC Hired Guns on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Central Park. Game one was a 10-0 shutout with Evan Stern leading the way on the mound with 4 scoreless innings followed by Johnny Avallone's one scoreless inning. Rob "ROBERTO" Kaminsky continued with his "hot hot" bat belting two more home runs, one from each side of the dish.
Game two saw Austin Coiro throw 4 scoreless, no hit, no walk, perfect innings, striking out 5! Jeff Oster followed with a scoreless inning striking out 3 while walking one and yielding a base hit to left. Jeff also homered for BLUE. The bats were on fire as the Bulldogs scored 18 runs.
Additional info to be added as soon as I receive the game stats.
Bombs Away
April 13, 2007
The weather was cool and crisp on this Friday the 13th. There was no Jason to be seen but the Bulldogs did see Rob, our very own ROBERTO circle the bases two times in a great baseball game giving the Bulldogs a 4-3 win in a scheduled 9 inning contest. Once again, BLUE received the support of solid pitching from starter Ryan McDonough (2K's), middle man Jeff Oster (2K's) and closer Austin Coiro (4K's) each throwing 3 solid innings against a very strong Bomber line-up.
In addition, we saw the Bulldog debut of Stephen "Big Country" Cuccio and catcher Nick Conlon who all played tough baseball contributing to BLUE's success. Big Country picked off a hard hit line drive to end a Bomber threat in the 8th.
Johnnie "Action" Avallone made a real nice play diving in the hole to end the 3rd inning.
If you are a youth baseball fan this one was worth the price of admission as both of these teams played real good baseball.
This game marked the start of the Cerbo League spring schedule for both teams.

Bulldogs Take 2 of 3 in Vikings Spring Classic
April 8, 2007
With the temperature in the high 30's the Jersey Bulldogs BLUE came into South Brunswick eager to get the season started. The 'Dogs came away with a first game victory by a score of 9-2 over the NJ Explosion with strong pitching from Ryan McDonough and Mike Lembo. After a brief intermission, Blue took on the Vikings with Evan Stern being perfect on the mound for 3 innings. A couple of hit batsmen, 2 "seeing eye" base hits and a bloop put 3 runs on the board for the Vikings. Keith Jennings pitched well in relief but the Bulldogs came up short by a score of 6-3. With playoff hopes still alive the boys went into Saturday play against the undefeated Flor-Mad squad and played winning baseball beating Flor-Mad by a score of 8-2 with Rob Kaminsky pitching 4 strong innings followed up by another strong performance from Ryan McDonough! The offensive attack was fuled by long balls by Kaminsky (three run HR) and Lembo (two run HR) and a McDonough clutch 2 run hit in the first frame. Earning "Silver Slugger" awards for multiple-hits were Matt Thaiss, Matt Turner, Noah Rosenberg and Vinny Spoleti.
The final result in pool play for the Bulldogs was 2 wins 1 loss forcing a 3 way tie, however as a result of the tie-breaker (least amount of runs given up)BLUE was 2 runs allowed "over" from a Playoff berth from South Brunswick who went on to win the tournament beating the CP Stars and East Hanover Longhorns in 8 innings.

Bulldogs Sting Tri-Boro
March 30, 2007
Bulldogs got the hits when they were needed, made the defensive plays when they were needed and pitched lights out when it was needed. They defeated the Tri-Boro Sting by a score of 8-5 in a 7 inning game. The Sting scored 2 in the top of the first but BLUE came back with 4 in the bottom of the inning on a Austin Coiro rbi single to left and a Johnny "ACTION" Avallone big two out double to right center with the bases loaded. Making his Bulldog debut was Evan Stern who threw gas for two innings striking out 6. The defense was solid with two runners thrown out at the plate including a nicely executed run-down between 3rd and home with Carlos Velez and Ryan McDonough getting the out at the plate. Mike Lembo started on the mound but his defense on a hard hit line drive in centerfield took down the Sting threat. First year players Vinny Spoleti, Tyler Pavone and Noah Rosenberg chipped in with some timely hard hit base hits and Billy Reimer was looking strong in the middle of the Bulldog infield. With the score tied 5-5 in the top of the 6th and two runners on it was time for Special K! Rob Kaminsky came in and threw strikes, a combination of fastballs and changeups, keeping the Sting hitters off stride! Rob struck out 5 hitters in a row and BLUE scored 3 times in the bottom half of the inning and this one was in the books!
