Austin Ravens 10u boys take first place at ATX Tournament. The Ravens played against the following teams Lake Travis Hotshots, Centex Pack, BullDawgs, and C.C. Tigers. The boys gave an all around performance. They hustled to lose balls, played amazing defense and moved the ball around on offense finding open players.
Austin Ravens 6u ends the season 6-0.
The Austin Ravens 6u team go undefeated in the 2010 Winter Season by beating the Spurs 18-4. The team consisted of 9 players; Jaden, Jalen, Danny, Tramaine, Jordan, Diontez, Margaret, Rayshad and Max. The Ravens dominated on defense holding their opponents to 4 points or less per game. Offensively, the Ravens were led by Jaden Mitchell. Margaret the only female on the team contributed as well to the team overall success. A Perfect SeasonAustin Ravens' 11u played in the Turner-Robert league on Tuesday nights. The team consisted of 11 players from third through fifth grade. Fifth grade players included Timmy, Richard, Dylan, Brian, Aaron and Rogelio. Fourth graders were D'Andre, Ashton, Jarrett and Treyvon. Reginald was the only 3rd grader on the team. The 11u boy’s team formed quickly and began to learn the basics of basketball. The Ravens came out flaming hot in their first game, beating their opponent 24-8. In this game, Timmy recorded the first 3-pointer by any 2010 Ravens player.
The second game gave the boys a run for their money. Our opponents were quick and athletic. Although turnovers were not recorded, we turned the ball over more times in this game than any other. Treyvon's 3-pointer in the first half gave us a 1 point advantage throughout the game and is what ultimately helped us win the game by one point, 13-12.
The last game of the season will be a game the boys will always remember. Before the game, I challenged the front court to rebound better and get to the loose balls. I informed the back court that if we were going to give ourselves a chance to win, our defense would have to be better than our offense. I explained that they would have to play four quarters of good defense against our opponent’s experienced ball handler. Everybody accepted the challenged and played amazing. Our front court recorded their highest rebounding night pulling down 19 rebounds. Richard Gomez snatched 9 while Brain and D’Andre recorded 5 a piece. The post also set better screens which allowed our back court to get open shots and cuts to the goal. Our front court scored 95% of our points. Timmy and Aaron scored 18 and 8 points respectfully. Both players made a 3-pointer. Reginald, Ashton and Jarrett played great defense. The game went into triple overtime and we pulled out a victory with a final score of 34-28. This win gave the team a perfect season going 4-0 for the 2010 Winter basketball season.
Another statement that I made in our pregame meeting is that games like this are where Amazing things can happen. The boys believed that they could win this game and they came out playing like it.
Although the winter bball season was short, the 11u team had a great time playing with each other. To view highlights of the season, click on the 11u boys picture on the pics and slideshow page.Team coached by Christy
