Delaware Babe Ruth is comprised of the Cal
Ripken and Babe Ruth Baseball Divisions along with Babe Ruth Softball.
Baseball is alive and well in Delaware and
providing as Ted Williams said “an opportunity for every American boy a
chance to excel, not just to be as good as someone else but to be better
than someone else. This is the nature of man and the name of the game”.
Today the same can be said for girls as softball has given every
American girl a chance to excel.
Babe Ruth Leagues all around Delaware subscribe
to providing each player the opportunity to experience the thrill of the
game and to play the game at the level of their choice – as a
recreational player, as a learner or at an advanced level.
Each local league chartered is an organization with authority to
administer its own program within the framework of the Rules and
Regulations and guidance of Babe Ruth League, Inc. officials.
Teams from each league are eligible to enter
tournament competition and move along the tournament trail to the
championship tournament - the World Series.
Cal Ripken Division
Keeping baseball FUN, especially in the early stages of youth baseball,
is a primary concern of Babe Ruth League's Cal Ripken Division which is
comprised of 12 and under players in the Major, Minor, Rookie, and
T-Ball Divisions.
Prep and Senior Leagues
The Babe Ruth League for 13-15 year old players was founded in 1951. In
an effort to encourage more participation in the game of baseball Babe
Ruth has a Prep League, which is composed of all 13-year-old players.
Studies have shown that many young players lose interest in the game of
baseball when they do not get ample playing time in games once selected
for an organized team. With the Prep League, the 13-year-old player has
a chance to play and hopefully avoid the possibility of losing interest
in playing baseball.
Big League
Babe Ruth 16-18 division was born in 1966 and is designed to provide
organized regulation baseball competition. The 16-18 division, which is
played under regulation baseball rules, also provides the opportunity to
practice the ideals of sportsmanship, fair play and democratic spirit
learned at Babe Ruth’s 13-15 level. The primary objective of the 16-18
division is to provide a community-level program, which eventually gives
the players an opportunity to participate in the 16-18 World Series.
