Local amateur baseball team on a winning streak

So far this season, the Everest Merchants are undefeated, continuing a winning tradition that has been ongoing for several seasons.
In 2007 and '08, the team won the Dairyland League, and it hasn't finished any worse than second since 2002.
The Merchants "is the most competitive team I've played on. We play to win, but we still have fun," said 25-year-old Ryan Hubacek of Rothschild, who has been on the team for seven years.
The team is made up of men 19 to 38 years old who played baseball in high school and college and wanted to continue competing. Some, like shortstop Matt Behrens, still are in school but don't want to play college ball.
"I don't play sports in college, but I come back for this," said Behrens, a student at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. "It's fun, it's laid-back, but still competitive on the field."
Manager Rex Zemke said playing with guys who have different experiences in the sport gives him perspective on the game.
"You learn different strategies with the games, and it makes you rethink how you were coached," he said.
Joe Waksmonski, 28, is a physical education teacher and the varsity baseball coach at Rhinelander and enjoys the opportunity to play the sport he coaches. "As a coach, you have to be the leader, but as a player you can relax," he said. "Here, I can get away and just play ball."

Everest Merchants Capture the 2008 Dairyland League Title
The Everest Merchants are the 2008 Dairyland League Champions with a (12-1) League record & finished the 2008 seasons with a (19-10) Overall Record. Great Job Everest Merchants! Thanks for all the support from fans & family also! #1 seed Everest won 2 more Dairyland League Tournament games in dominating fashion vs. #4 seed Merrill & #3 seed Rib Lake both by the 10 run rule on Saturday August 2nd at Rib Lake. In the 1st round of the Dairyland League Tourny Everest destroyed Merrill with the score 15-2 in 7 Innings. Then in the Final round of the Dairyland League Tourny Everest crushed Rib Lake with the score 15-1 in 7 Innings.

2009 Dairyland League Champions Everest Merchants
The 2009 Everest Merchants were members of the Dairyland Baseball League & the Wisconsin Baseball Association. Other members of the Dairyland are the following: Antigo Stallions, Everest Merchants, Interwald Woodticks, Merrill Rangers, Rib Lake Lakers, Spirit Twins, Tomahawk Titans, Taylor County Sausage, Wausau River Hawks, & Whittlesey Reds. The 2009 Dairyland League was won again by back to back to back champions Everest Merchants who had a (10-0) conference record & (16-2) overall record in the regular season.
