SGT. DAVID SMITH

February 16, 1984 - January 26, 2010

Sgt. Dave Smith, a Marine in the local reserve unit, died today of injuries from Saturday's attack in Afghanistan.

Smith's unit, the 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion Company B, was stationed in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan, near the Pakistan border.

David was a 2002 Frederick High School graduate, he was a defensive end and kick off specialist for the Cadets. David was also a member of Frederick's lacrosse, soccer and wrestling teams.

The Frederick Football Networt and Family would like to extend their thoughts and condolences to his family. Many current Frederick Football Staff members coached, played and grew up with David.

A moment of silence was held in memory of David at the Cadets girls basketball game tonight against Urbana and one will be held at each Frederick home athletic contest for the remainder of the week.
