Lady Wave Kicks Off 2017 Season in Peoria, IL vs. St Viator, Peoria Notre Dame & Benet Academy

    2017 Lady Wave Softball Team

The Lady Wave Softball Team embarked on a 2-day, 3 game spring trip to Peoria, IL to face St Viator's, Peoria Notre Dame and Benet Academy. Although coming out on the short end of all three games the team has many positives to focus on as they prepare for the remainder of the season.

Game 1: St Viator 9 - St Ed's 5

Early pitching jitters and sloppy play put the Lady Wave behind 9-0 before their bats came alive to score 5 runs in the 6th behind some clutch hitting by Stapay, Ernst and Miller.

Game 2: Peoria Notre Dame 10 - St Ed's 2

Playing against the top ten 3A ranked Peoria Notre Dame Irish, the Lady Wave were outmatched offensively and defensively as the Irish ran at will and jumped to an early 8-0 lead before the Lady Wave got on the board with 2 runs in the 4th inning.

Game 3: Benet Academy 24 - St Ed's 8

A tale of 2 innings was the downfall for the Lady Wave as their pitching and defense struggled in the 1st and 7th innings, giving up 13 and 11 respectively in those 2 innings. Offensively the Lady Wave had their best game of the young season, banging out 10 hits and scoring 8 runs.

The bright spots on the weekend were the bats of Jessy Kramp with 6 hits in 10 at bats and 3 rbi's, Devyn Ernst with 2 hits in 4 at bats and 2 rbi's, Freshman Ashley Miller with 5 hits in 10 at bats and 4 rbi's and 2 doubles, and Emily Stapay with 3 hits in 10 at bats including 2 doubles and 2 rbi's, Paige Jones with 2 hits and an on base percentage of .417 as the lead-off batter.

Next up for the Lady Wave is the Conference Opener at Chicago Christian on March 24th weather permitting.

The Lady Wave Softball Team is heading to East Peoria and the IHSA Finals!!! Perseverance and the Desire to Continue playing this Season led to an epic game of strong pitching, great defense and taking advantage of the opportunity presented. With the scored tied at zero heading into the 11th inning, Allie Stratman was hit by a pitch, moved to second and then third on infield outs and broke for home scoring the lead run on a wild pitch. That put it into the hands of stand-out pitcher Lindsay Zdroik to hold the Peotone Blue-Devils in check in the bottom of the 11th. The first hitter flew out to left fielder Sarah Mendoza on a great back handed catch as she crossed into foul territory, the second batter of the inning grounded back to Zdroik, the third batter singled and Zdroik nailed down the win with a ground out to 2nd baseman Mallory Rejman. Heading south for two more games on Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4, the Lady Wave teams has a chance to bring home the bigger prize. The quote of the day from the Lady Wave team, "Why Not Us"
