Bulldogs take 3rd in their finale tournament of the 2011 Season!
The U13 Bulldog Baseball Club ended their 2011 season in Manteca this past weekend. They battled a tough field of 12 teams and ended up with a respectable 4-1 record for a 3rd place finish.
The Bulldogs started out the three day Toys for Tots tourney on Friday against the Sacramento Blue Devils. The Blue Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Bulldogs battled back to win 7-5. Cole Chadwick started the game pitching and after a shaky start pitched 2 great innings. Justin Rivera came in in the bottom of the 3rd and pitched 3 strong innings striking out 6 batters. Tyler Bosetti came in in the bottom of the 6th to finish the Blue Devils off by striking out 4 batters and the last batter to win the game.
The second game was the night cap at 8:30pm and to say the least it was a Foggy, Chilly night. The Bulldogs faced the Raw Sluggers from Niles Canyon. The Bulldogs offense exploded early for 4 runs in the first two innings and then another 6 runs in the next 3 innings. With a 10-4 lead the game ended in the 5th inning because of the 1:50 time limit expired. Troy Claunch and Jacob Boothe combined for the victory pitching 5 strong innings.
The third and only game on Saturday for the Bulldogs was against the S.S.A. Warriors. The Bulldog's bats started off slow but finished in a fury. The Bulldogs scored 8 runs in 5 innings and the game was called due to the 8-0 score in the 5th inning. Brenden Barling and Jacob Boothe combined for the shutout. With the victory the Bulldogs received the 2nd seed for Sunday's Bracket Play. The Bulldogs learned they would be playing their Bulldog U12 mini-me’s who were forced to play up because they were the only 12U major team signed up for this tournament.
All the Bulldog Baseball Club families woke up for the early Sunday morning showdown with conscientious thoughts. Like Big Brothers the U13 Boys were weighing the thought of losing to the younger Bulldogs and how they would not be able to live down the ridicule of losing to their younger brothers. Justin Rivera started pitching for the U13 and Zach Perlstein for the U12. The U13 jumped out to a 3-0 in the 2nd inning and never looked back scoring an additional 5 runs in the next 3 innings for an 8-0 victory. Rivera and Cole Chadwick combined for 7 strikeouts in 5 innings. The U12 Bulldogs played very well in the tournament finishing with a 3-2 record and beating some very good U13 teams.
After wining the battle of the Bulldogs the U13 moved on to the semi finales against the WR Nationals who earned a forfeit over the SASA Outlaws because the Outlaws forgot to have an opponent’s coach sign their pitching affidavit. This Benefited the Nationals Drastically because they did not have any of their pitchers throw and lose innings. None the less the Bulldogs came out and battling. Brenden Barling was the starting pitcher for the Bulldogs and struck out the side in order in the first inning. In the second inning Brenden gave up 2 hits and 1 run but then settled down and struck out the side again. The Bulldog pitching kept them in this game with the score 4-2 Brenden gave way to Tyler Bosetti who came in and pitched the finale 3 innings of the game. Tyler is not known as a power pitcher but a very effective contact pitcher. He faced 7 hitters in his first 2 innings only giving up 1 hit getting 3 fly ball outs, 2 ground ball outs and striking out 1. The Bulldogs offense struggled leaving the bases loaded twice and runners on second and third two other times. The Bulldogs could only muster 6 hits for the game and lost 5-2.
The Bulldogs finished their 2011 Season with a very respectable 22-7-1 record. The Bulldogs won 4 Tournament Championships in 7 tournament trys. The Bulldogs will be taking a 2 month hiatus for the Holidays. Happy Holidays from the Bulldogs and remember Go Bulldogs!
The U13 Bulldogs did it again last weekend. They played in the Nor Cal Travel Balls Veterans’ Day Shootout and made it a clean sweep. The Dogs were 4-0 as they scored 33 runs in 4 games and only allowed 6 runs. The Dogs bats exploded over the 4 games. The dogs racked up 44 hits in 99 total at bats for a team batting average of .444 during the tournament. The Dogs pitching was stellar once again allowing only 6 runs in 4 games with two shutout victories. The first game was against the Outlaws and the Dogs beat them 5-0. The second game was against the Golden Gate Sliders and the dogs won 14-2. With this victory the Dogs were the number 1 seed going into Bracket play and drew FEBA in the first round. The Dogs played very impressive and only needed 5 innings to shutout the Eagles 8-0. With the win the Dogs were launched into the Championship game against Nor Cal Valley. The Dogs jumped on Nor Cal fast and built a 6-1 lead after 3 innings. The Nor Cal team battled back to make it close at 6-4 for the finale score. All the Dogs played extremely well. Great Job Boys! We have our finale tourney of the 2011 season at Manteca's Big League Dream Park, November 25th-27th. Regardless of the out come it has been a very successful season. GO DOGS!

Bulldogs Take First place out of 18 teams!
October 23, 2011
The Bulldog U13 took 1st place in a field of 18 teams this weekend in Elk Grove at Bartholomew Park.
The Boys started the weekend early Saturday morning with the 8am game against the Stealth from Modesto. They had 10 hits and scored 9 runs in 9-1 victory over the Stealth in 5 innings. The Dogs played extremely well with 6 runs scored on productive outs, 5 sacrifices and one well placed hit behind the runners to score a runner. Austin Cowan and Zach Myers combined in a solid pitching effort by allowing only 2 hits and striking out 9 batters.
Game 2 for Saturday the Dogs kept the hit attack coming with another 10 hits and another great pitching performance by Troy Claunch and Tyler Bosetti. The Dogs played the Santa Rosa Cougars and shut them out 6-0. Bosetti and Claunch combined for 9 strikeouts and 0 walks and only allowed 1 hit in 7 innings. With this win the Bulldogs were able to secure the #1 seed for Sunday’s Championship round in the Blue Bracket.
On Sunday the Bulldogs faced the pesky Outlaws Baseball Club who secured the 6th seed. The Bulldogs were trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the 7th and Jacob Boothe started the Dogs off with a double down the left field line. Cole Chadwick hit a hard ground ball past the shortstop. With runners on first and second and two outs Brendan Barling hit a fly ball to centerfield that the centerfielder lost in the sunlight. With the dropped ball both runners scored to tie the game 4-4. With Barling on second base the Outlaws intentionally walked leadoff hitter Tyler Bosetti setting up a force out opportunity. Up steps Austin Cowan who hits a mammoth walk off double to the left center gap. This scores the winning run and sends the Bulldogs into the Championship game.
The Championship game was one for the ages. The Bulldogs faced their cross town rival the Dirty Dozen. The Dirty Dozen jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Bulldogs battled back to take a 3-2 lead with a string of hits and couple of errant plays by the Dirty Dozen’s shortstop. After giving up 2 runs in the 1st inning the Bulldog’s Troy Claunch settled into a smooth rhythm and pitched 6 scoreless innings. Claunch threw only 75 pitches in 7 innings. In grand fashion Claunch struck out the final batter with the tying run on second base giving the Bulldogs their 3rd championship in 4 tournaments.
