| Artie, you piece of shit you specifically told everyone this tournament was a league tournament, then you preceed to pickup 7 guys of which half are c players so you can win a tournament against a bunch of sunday morning teams. Way to run a charity tournament in your sisters name and turn it into a joke. Count the PNA out of all of your future debacles and I hope everyone else follows suit.

| I agree 100% with ant you made a mochary of what was supposed to be a fundraiser tournement to a good cause i have no problem losing to any team but not when u specificaly say its for league teams u you had 3 B players on ur team and to top it all off the least you could have done was to tell your guys to stay away from the middle and Rob was hit once and had 4 other shots at his shins but i guess this was your last chance this yr to win your first tournement of the yr and you did it in classless way

| Well said Anthony. After what I saw and what I was told about being asked not to pick people up and that is the team you show up with. Artie you should be ashamed of yourself, but that would require morals. Something you don't have. I'm sure you will have some sob story about how you would have forfeited or some other bullshit line. Instead you turned a fun tournament into a complete disgrace. Thanks for letting me take an entire Sunday to get to the finals to find out I'm playing our sunday morning squad against a C team. There were exactly 4 members of the VFW/Distefano team on the field. I'm sure Tim Cress, Frank Murphy, Joe Bloom, Nick Prata, Johnny A, Mad dog, Constantino will all be members of the VFW next year. Oh, that's right you don't have 7 exemptions.
If anyone would like to play in a future event run by Artie I suggest taking your money and just run it thru a shredder.

| i know i played with a bunch of guys today who i had a blast with including the pna, even tho i didnt get to play against them. we lost to trust, but pna beat trust which makes them the team who in my book won. if artie picked people up ( when YOU said no pick ups... just to win a turkey come on ) BUSH LEAGUE.
PNA IS THE CHAMPS if you guys wants turkeys ill buy em for you guys.... you deserve em.

Its not about the turkey, It was about showing up on a day that was 20 degrees and playing on cement with titelists to support a fellow league members charity, when we all had other things we could have been doing. Then, finding out the whole day was just a waste of time, and getting pumped 29-5 or so in 3 innings.

| Every guy above this post is known as a standup guy in the league. So I inherently trust all of their sentiments and really the gut that runs the touurnament should not be the guy that ruins the tournament. I can offer no defense for artie at all..if I kept writing I can only add details that would piss you off further. Artie is a enigma thats for certain. On the plus side of the day..did anybody see Lessard do his " ROLLING THUNDER " delivery . A pre-pitch double cartwheel ...did it like 5 diiferent times...all strikes..and got at least two strikeouts. Absolute highlight.

| I'm glad we were at field 2. We had a great time in our pool. Jefferson Grille, PNA, Patriot, and Club Jogues. If anyone wanted to see what this tournament was SUPPOSED to be about, these should have been the games to watch. Laughs right from the start, everyone pretty much avoided hitting the middle, and good sportsmanship. After we lost a guy because he had to leave, one of the other teams gave us an extra guy they had. We (Jerfferson Grille) didn't go out hunting down the best player that wasn't playing at the time. I think it's best if we all just take away from the day that it was a fantastic time when we got to see guys from the league and share some laughs before the season ended. I feel bad that PNA had to wait around all day in the cold to get their asses kicked by a bunch of ringers, but in the end they won a turkey and lost the respect of the entire league so was it worth it?
One highlight for me was seeing Smitty swing and miss. Hodde said he was going to be all over the site writing about it, but then he swung and missed the next inning. Classic!
Thanks to all the guys that played in our pool and making me not regret getting out of bed at 7:30 AM to play ball in 20 degree weather.

| As is the case with those who amount to nothing in their lives, Artie is trying to trying to make up for a life of being a loser. Nothing legitimate. He's not a has been, he never was. To make it worse, he contributes nothing to the talent. Stacked teams, shaved bats,c'mon! Find somewhere else to play. If you were a real man you wouldn't have to pull all these shenanigans. We all want to win, but not a the cost of breaking rules, losing friends or even worse putting someone in physical danger. I am sorry I missed the tournament, but the 70 degrees in Northern CA is a nice trade off. I am very disappointed with Artie, this is a guy I was considering playing for. What's your defense Artie?

You turned this CHARITY tournament into a complete joke. How can you post about not picking up the best players from other teams withing the tournament. Then you turn around and pick up the best players in the state. Way to go. Someone could have really gotten hurt out there. The majority of the player out there were Sunday morning players. What a damn joke. You should be banned from Coventry Sunday morning softball. | Those 14 teams didnt play you. You hung yourself in your own damn statement. Why cant you play right field? You promote a tournament for a sunday morning coventry league and know you are just going to try and excuse it away by pointing out that you let other teams do what you asked teams not to do.? Noone ever accused anyone of trying to hurt rob raymond but as he said after the second inning he didn't know he was going to be facing guys like that and might not have if he had known. To his credit he stuck in there even after i asked him to let me pitch. Gained alot of respect from me but not as much as you lost from alot of people.

If you look at the original post for the tourney after the team names that arent in the league you wrote things in parentheses to justify them being in. Yesterday when we asked you why Cress was playing you said because you were going to forfeit, but YOU were DHing. | well well well! no big surprises here. yes other teams had guys from other teams like trust,sandybottom,pna. the difference is, is that all of the guys played in the coventry league. so i dont see a problem with that. terrible response artie. gotta do better than that. i will say if any teams want to have beerfest. it will be trust and my hammer team sandy butthole in the finals. had a blast with all those guys yesterday. props to defranco for everything.

| Artie, just because I had a great time doesn't mean I agree with what you did. I consider myself a pretty level headed guy and honestly three games was plenty for me. I could care less if I won a Turkey Trot in November. That being said, you HAVE to see why other teams would be upset about that squad you played with. I mean, Cress and Murphy? C'mon, that's pretty bad. And saying that they were just hanging around the field so you asked them to play is kinda hard to believe. I think Cress has young children and lives in Massachusetts. Seems odd that he'd come hang out on a Sunday in 32 degree weather to watch other guys play.
To me, the bottom line is that the money raised got to the charity for which it was intended so as long as that happened I guess the day was a success.
Lastly, I hate to say it but in spite of the final score I think PNA could give Artie's shady squad a pretty good run for its money most of the time.

ernie what i think crumb meant was that we had 2 guys that either didnt show or said they were sick, so we had called ( picked up players ) that we knew from certain teams, who were NOT playing in this tournament. we got 2 guys there that had no clue they were goin to be playing until about 845 am. so to those guys i thank for everything.
and i think thats what he meant as the pna had there squad all day, as did trust, as did the sandy.
we didnt pick players up even tho we probably coulda taken some of the pna guys just so we could have beaten trust. then once we beat trust take some of the trust guys to play vs pna. its the same thing artie did. which i feel is unfair, u name that certain guys coulda made it last week well. u had a full week to make sure u would have other guys there ( sunday morning players ) but somehow it just happened to b some of the best players in the state are showing up on a day when i knew i was playing and didnt wanna b there. we found out we would b short in the morning of the tourny and got guys there, and we dont know as many softball guys as artie does.
just seems a bit shady.
PNA Champions of the turkey trot and 2009 summer league. SUPER POWER!!!!!!
i had a good time playing against the guys we did and had the privalege of watching play.

The gripe I have has nothing to do with any Vdub players, it's with Artie and the ridiculous players he brought to a Sunday morning level tournament. Dean, scrolling thru the posts and i saw that you said most guys stayed out of the middle. Just wanted to say sorry about that. Okay so tell me how does a small softball tournament turn into one of the most monumental scandals since Richard Nixon and Watergate, fraught with supposition and conjecture the likes that would make any conspiracy theorist harder than a diamond in an ice storm?
So here is how I see things from my dispassionate and neutral position. The general presumption amongst some of the people whom were there is that Artie is somehow smart enough to devise some sort of devious plan to win the Turkey Trot by telling other teams not to pick up any players other than what they have and then turned around and loaded up his team. I think it’s time to make a call.
Well I hate to spoil everyone’s “I hate Artie” party, but…it’s not as clear cut as it would appear. So here is what I know. The week the Turkey Trot was originally supposed to go off, I lost several players. Tommy Vincent broke two toes and couldn’t play, two others that I work with lost their switches and had to go in, DJ and Yankee couldn’t play and had to work, Delsignore just started on a new shift and had to work, and the Quartrinni brothers both were away, and Ian Smith had a thing for Kate’s birthday. So I picked up Timmy Cress and two other guys and was going to play with what I had. The game was postponed.
On Monday I found out that I was losing even more guys including the Plante brothers and now I couldn’t field a team at all. I called Artie and told him that I was out because I couldn’t find anyone else. Artie told me that he lost a bunch of guys as well and was down to about 6 or 7 and asked me if I wanted to merge with his team. I told him I would do what I could. So Tim Cress and a couple of others who wanted to play were directed toward Artie by me. Also Hodde and Justin somehow were not called and showed up and wound up playing for Bobby Botelho. (Doesn’t seem to be a problem there though) I’m also told several teams picked up players who were hanging around or were added last minute…and that is understandable.
So now the question becomes, if one of the other teams had called me and said: “Hey Mert, you have any guys laying around who want to play…and I said...yup, got Timmy Cress and a couple of others…you can tell me with a straight face that you would say no? Bullshit!
So that’s exactly how it went down boys…no conspiracy, no masterminded plots, it was just pure luck.
Now I’m not Artie’s defender, but I owe at least saying as much as I have since he could have easily threw me under the bus and told you guys from the get go that it was me who sent those guys to him, but he didn’t and he took the rap for this and that at least in part is pretty fucking stand up in my book.
So plug them holes up boys and stop fucking crying over losing.

Artie states in his post not to pick anyone up then he did. I dont give a fuck if god himself told artie to pick up tim cress, frank murphy and every other ringer he brought in. It's still not right.
If the PNA or any other team tried to pick up 7 ringers for the tournament and try to pass it by artie because that's who all team hopping / pickups needed to be approved by, what do you think his response would have been to us? I can tell you what he would have said. "come on guy, didnt you read the website".
That would be almost exactly what he would say. It doesn't even matter the fact that you stated he is a stand up guy just proves that you don't know him as well as some of us.
I bet a lot of the criminals you deal with had people they were nice to in between committing crimes that thought the criminals were great people too.

"I only picked guys up so i wouldn't forfiet" Thats why in the finals he sat the bench and had 11 on the field. I think you can play with 10, no wait 9!!! before you forfiet. If he wanted to make it a "cutthroat bring your best" Than he should have told everyone such and we all would have stacked up. Believe me TC and Murph wouldn't have been playing with Artie.

Ernie, my facts are not fucked up, I'm telling you the facts...I sent Tim and company over to Artie because my team folded. That is a fact. Whatever else that may have happened I don't know and like you said I wasn't there, but what I do know is that Artie didn't plan on this it just happened. He was short and I sent those guys to him...simple.
Broz, I simply said that Artie could have come out and said that Mert sent those guys over to me and threw me under the bus and he didn't and that was stand up. He could have taken the heat off himself by putting it on me.
I get what you are all saying, and I know that me stepping up and taking some responsibility for this is not the POPULAR thing to do but it is the RIGHT thing to do. I just wonder if I came in with Cress and company on my team if all you guys would be screaming bloody murder that Mert is a fucking cheater or could it be that it is because it is Artie?
Now I'm not going to bad mouth the guy because it is the POPULAR thing to do, and once again he doesn't need me to defend him, I simply state for the record that he had not planned on getting those guys, they had originally signed up to play with me but since I bailed out they played for him, which at least shows that it was not planned.
Same applies to other teams who picked up guys...they were short and picked up who they could get, it just so happens that Artie scored some blue chips.

| We are guilty of picking up ringers too...sorry.
The requirements were you had to be bald, simple, had a chiminea, had a grill, had a portable heater, knew how to pop up foul in a one pitch tournament, knew how to swing and miss, knew how to have a good time, and oh yeah, knew how to 12 run Sandy Bottom!
I think we accomplished all of those things so therefore, TRUST is the the unofficial Turkey Trot Champion!
