| Why can't we change the rule on field position set-up for O & D? Instead of starting all plays in the middle of the field, why can't we set up for the next play on the hashmark closest to the spot where the previous play ended? Of course, if a play ends in the middle, fine, set up for the next play in the middle. That's what they do in the NFL. I thought that NFL rules apply in the NEFL? We're not using the hashmarks according to the way real football is played.
Strategically, this would present some interesting changes in the kinds of plays that could be run - and some that potentially, at least, could be run better than they are run now from the middle of the field.

| Hey Jack, I know Norris uses the hashmarks. He coaches the Bengals. I don't believe there is a rule that says you have to set up in the middle? Its up to the offensive coach.
But lining up in the middle just makes it easier to say your QB is outside of the pocket (hashmarks)if you rolled him out. If you started on the right hash but rolled left, you might not get outside? For the most part these rules were made to be simple, not too much extra movement or hands on the men. We use to have just 1 pivot!! But back to your original statement, I think you can line up on the hash it's your decision.

| Corey,
I quote below directly from the 2009 Rules. It doesn't say anything under "Offensive Set-Up" that a coach can elect to start a play from scrimmage on the left or right hashmark (depending on where the previous play ended).
So explain to me how Coach McGraw or anyone in the NEFL can legally set up with his center on one of the hashmarks instead of in the middle of the field? I never saw that done by ANYONE last year in any of the games I played. But then, never played the Bengals.
Offensive Set-up
Offense must begin their set up with the center being placed on the center of the field, followed by their remaining 4 offensive linemen.
