| at what point does an umpire call a runner or batter out when that runner/batter has thought he/she has been called out and is heading to the dugout? It is assumed that the defensive team has not taken any action and for whatever reason has ignored that offensive player.

| The runner should be declared out when she enters the dugout with less than two outs. Otherwise, when she leaves the field of play and the play is over.
