| Holbrook's 12yr Old BB All Stars bounced back from a tough loss with a pounding of Toms River LL , 14-2 in Brick this morning!
Holbrook jumped out front 4-0 early, taking advantage of some smart (Tai Mann & Chris Cartnick) and creative (Ryan Kinsman) baserunning and clutch hitting. (Anthony Abbonizio, Charlie Meglio)
Garrett Drew shut down Brick LL, yielding just 3 hits in 3innings. Chris Andrews kept the shutout alive through the 4th and 5th inning. Kinsman closed out the game as Holbrook set their pitching up for the Championship round.
Stellar defense kept Brick off the scoreboard, highlighted by a Chris Cartnick-Charlie Meglio- RJ Vashey, 6-4-3 doubleplay to get out of a 2 on and 1 out jam. Another diving stab of a ground ball by Meglio and a flip to Cartnick, stopped another potential rally. But the defensive play of the day came with 2 on and 2 out in the bottom of the 5th when rightfielder Johnny Grano, running to his right, dove and laid out to make a Ron Swoboda like catch to end the inning!! (Don't know what a Ron Swoboda like catch is? Google it or YouTube it from the 1969 Mets World Series!!)
Holbrook's bats came alive in the top 6th scoring 10 runs on 3 run Homers by Drew and Tai Mann and a 2 run Homer by JR Osmond.
Holbrook advances to the District Championship on Monday against Manchester LL. Our boys will be looking to avenge their only "loss" of the tournament and force the "IF" game and capture the title on Tuesday!!
Our boys showed what they are made of today! Very proud of how they came back strong after a bad loss!!
Monday has shaped up to be must see baseball!!
