MARAUDERS FALL TO FALCONS TO END SEASON
(from Eastcountysports.com)
TORREY PINES 4, MIRA MESA 2 – The Marauders' MAUGA sisters – QUIRISA and KATIYANA – roped consecutive, tape-measure home runs in the 6th inning, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 4-0 deficit, as the top-seeded Falcons eliminated the second-seeded Marauders two rounds short of the CIF San Diego Section Division I title game.
Torrey Pines later set a school record with its 30th victory of the season by besting Poway, 3-1, to gain a rematch against Carlsbad for the large-school division crown.
Quirisa Mauga sent a drive well past the barrier in center field to get Mira Mesa on the scoreboard. Moments later, Katiyana Mauga sent a drive which bounced just shy of the slow-pitch softball warning track at Sportsplex USA of Poway , a mammoth bolt estimated at 282 feet.
However, Falcons pitcher Rachel Nasland kept the rest of the Marauders in check by registering 16 strikeouts. Nasland was staked to an early 1-0 lead, then Taylor Lee smacked a 2-run homer in the 4th for a 3-0 advantage,
Lee later pitched five solid inning against Poway , and Nasland earned her fourth save of the season to tip the Titans.
