Little brothers bolster Bulls
While their older brothers get all the love as members of the Springfield High School freshman team, Mike Eberhardt and Colin Shane stole the headlines in the season opener for the Bulls in the SAA Teeners League.
The duo combined to allow just three hits and one earned run as the Bulls knocked off a tough Lug Nuts squad 5-2.
Mike Eberhardt threw three solid innings, striking out five and yielding just one earned run. Shane picked up the two-inning save before darkness halted the game in the bottom of the sixth.
Tommy Mackus sparked a three-run second inning with a one-out, opposite field single. Kieran McCormack and Matt Nolan both showed heads up baserunning darting home and scoring on wild pitches.
Big brother wasn't about to not get his name mentioned though as Colin Eberhardt knocked in a run with a high-chop infield single to score an insurance run.
The Bulls showed some good patience, working seven walks, but also struck out nine times, meaning coach Anthony SanFilippo will be looking for more contact the next time around.
The Bulls (1-0) take on the Hooks Saturday in what will be the opening game for the Hooks after they were rained out Wednesday.
