Aston Valley League History

The Aston Valley Baseball League was formed in 1962 by Mr. Sam Erb. At that time, Aston was a small but growing community. Two teams, one from Aston Manor and one from Valley View, played on the original field located on the Valley View Playground. As the township grew, teams from Woodbrook, Aston Farms, Village Green Knolls, and Green Ridge were added.

In 1973, township commissioners assisted in the construction of the baseball fields off Weir Road where the bulk of the league fields are today. The teener division was added in 1978 with the School Board allowing the league to use two fields at Sun Valley. Buggy Field at Sun Valley High School was constructed in conjunction with Penn Delco School District and was completed for use in 2001.

Aston Valley Baseball League started with 2 teams, 30 children and 6 adults. It has since grown into approximately 39 teams, 600 children, 87 coaches and managers, a 10 member executive board, and an untold number of parental volunteers.

Today about 600 area kids are involved in our Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth League. Every year we have a number of our teams win our District Championships and make it onto the Pennsylvania State Tournaments.

Today about 400 area kids are involved in our Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth League.  Every year we have a number of our teams win our District Championships and make it onto the Pennsylvania State Tournaments.  Our teams also participate in many local tournaments during the summer.  Aston Valley also runs a Fall Baseball league for our kids and surrounding areas to help improve their baseball skills and have fun.  Every year Aston Valley hosts a 2 week baseball clinic in the summer.  This clinic is run by Billy Wright and the Aston Valley Knights Delco Men's Baseball team and provides a additional valuable training to our kids of Aston.

Weir Park, home of our Cal Ripen program has gone thru several changes over the years.  In recent years, the Township built a new bridge crossing over the creek, lights and pitching mounds were added to our batting cages to allow additional practice time and options.  The minor and major fields were refurbished with all new infield and outfield grass and new fencing around our major field.  A pavilion was added outside the major field and a walk of fame was added to the walkway.
