Softball FAQ's
Hello Softball Community,
over the years we've heard the same questions over and over so we put together an frequently asked questions fore your convience:
How Long is the season?
-The season traditionally begins the first week after April vacation and ends early June
Where do we play?
-Practices are held at the Goffstown High School (GHS).
-Games can be played at GHS, Amherst, Bedford, Milford, New Boston, or a number of surrounding towns. This varies year to year depending on league size.
How many and how long are practices?
-Early season there are typical 1-2 practices per week. Once games begin it would be once a week. Practices typically last 1-2 hours, age group and coach dependant.
How often or how many games are there?
-For 6u and 8u there is typically 1 game a week on Saturdays.
-For 10u/12/u/16u there could be 2-3 games a week, We plan for 2 games, but if there are cancellations we try to fit them in as best we can, sometimes resulting in a 3rd game in the week.
Does the league provide equipment?
Though the league has equipment, we highly recommend procuring your own. We do try to maintain a well maintained selection of catcher gear, but bats, helmets, and gloves are generally provided by donations or hand me downs.
What equipment is required?
Every player in each age group is required to have their own protective face mask as well as a softball glove. We highly recommend a batting helmet with fave protection and bat as well, as there's no guarantee we will have one that is sized properly.
What does the season look like per age group?
-6u/8u: Practice is typically once a week for 1-1.5 hr, There is also a game once a week to help enforce instructions and provide opportunities to have even more fun! Games are normally held on saturdays at the Goffstown High School or New Boston
-10u/12u/16u: Practice is typically 1-2 times per week for 1.5-2 hrs, daylight dependent. There are typically 2 games a week, one during the week and one during the weekend. We take every effort to plan accordingly and keep weekday games close to home, but sometimes there are games a couple towns over. Weekday games traditionally start at 6pm with warm ups starting 30-45mins before, with a 2hr game time limit.
How does the team communicate?
We prefer coaches utilize the Game Changer Team manager App. This enables group chat, RSVP for practices and games (important for game planning), and the ability to add other family members to gain access to up to date information.
Picture Day
Each Spring the league will coordinate a Picture day. Information about what day will be provided at a later date.
Why did costs go up?
-Do to increase the leagues costs for field use, umpires, equipment, and uniforms we've had to adjust our costs upward. We take every effort to avoid these increases and absorb costs through fund raiser efforts such as the calendars and winter clinics.
