Game Day Snack Schedule
The kids look forward to a snack after their ball game. It's also a great way to build team commodore.
It's very helpful to have a Team Parent who can organize the snack schedule. Typically, the parents sign up for one or two games to be the snack host. This will depend on how many players and how many games are scheduled. The schedule and snack items should be discussed and decided as a team.
Some tips and things to keep in mind:
- Food Allergies.... check and double check with other parents! When in doubt, bring the ingredient list and/or original packaging for other parents to review.
- Participation is optional. Be cognizant that everyone's budget is not equal. If you need some guidance on this, please ask your board.
- Keep in mind that there may be siblings at games. Decide as a team if you want to include additional snacks for siblings.
- I have found that preparing paper snack bags at home, then handing out after the game is easiest. Players can grab a bag and go or hang out and enjoy.
- To avoid spreading germs/illnesses, avoid family style snacks (or have a parent with clean hands serve children) when possible.
Snack Ideas:
- Bottled water, Capri Sun, Gatorade, etc.
- Gogurt (freeze overnight...yummy!)
- Carrot and/or celery sticks (in snack size ziplock)
- Pretzels
- Fruit snacks
- Fruit - small apples or sliced apples, grapes, watermelon, cantaloupe, etc.
Pinterest has some great snack ideas. In my experience, snacks consist of a beverage and 1-3 edibles. Again, be sure to check for food allergies.
